Career Development eManual : Canada’s University of Waterloo offers a concrete 6-step process to manage the career development process.  This is not a quick read; instead, it has numerous worthwhile reading components, downloadable exercises, and video clips.

 

Career One Stop : This site sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor offers links to self-assessments and a ton of information about occupations, salaries, employment trends, and much more.  You can even compare data from different states.  There are also some video clips!

 

Career Ship : Although this site targets a pre-college audience, the information provided by O*NET, especially the career cluster component, is beneficial to career browsers of all ages.

 

My Cool Career : Free assessments and career information including audio interviews are the signature items of this colorful site.

 

Occupational Outlook Handbook : Perhaps the most frequently accessed resource for information about what workers do on the job, training and education needed, earnings, and expected job prospects for hundreds of job titles.

 

O-NET On Line : O*NET is a robust occupational information site with more than 800 occupation descriptions that provides a skills search tool and some very useful occupation finders that focus on attributes such as high growth industries, levels of preparation, and job family.

 

Quintessential Careers – Choosing a College Major : A six “stop”, panic-free approach to the major/career exploration journey.

 

What can I do with this major : Southern Illinois University Edwardsville helps to connect majors with careers.  This is an excellent starting point for students who ask “What could I do with a major in history?” plus numerous other disciplines that lack a clear employment outcome.

 

What can I do with a major in : This is the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s contribution to students considering a major in the liberal arts or a science field.
