EDINBORO, PA - The Edinboro University men's and women's cross country teams both had impressive showings at the 200 Stanford Invitational. Despite running against a field laden with NCAA Division I teams, the Edinboro men finished 11th in the 18 team field while the women placed 12th out of 21 squads in their event. The Stanford Cardinals won both the men's and women's meets. The men's team, currently ranked second in the Division I poll dominated the men's event scoring just 28 points to outdistance second-place UC Santa Barbara by 90 points! On the other side, the Stanford women are ranked number one in the country (Division I). They scored 61 points on the day to stave off a strong second place performance from the University of Washington (91 points).
Jeff Barker (Barto, PA/Boyertown) continued to be the Fighting Scots top male runner. He completed the 8K circuit in 25:38 to earn a 12th-place finish. Barker was the second runner from Division II to cross the line. He trailed only Jeff Kaiser of UC Davis who finished just two seconds faster in 11th-place.
Other Edinboro men scoring points included Nat Wibberly (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) in 44th (26:31), Aaron Rowe (Dublin, OH/Dublin Scroto) in 55th (26:43), Joe Reynolds (North East, PA/North East) in 96th (27:58), and Kimmo Lassila (Veto, Finland) in 118th (28:35). Ryan Kelly (Vero Beach, FL/Vero Beach) rounded out the field for the Running Scots, finishing 126th in the 139 man field.
For the women, senior Ashley Hansen (Erie, PA/McDowell) led a tight pack of three Edinboro runners who all finished within 12 seconds of one another. Hansen, whom like Barker was just the second Division II runner to cross the line, finished in 44th (18:50). Fellow senior Carrie McKeon (Altoona, PA/Altoona) ran to a 48th-place finish (18:59) and Lisa Petsche (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) placed 51st (19:02) in just her first major meet of the season after returning from two consecutive stress fractures.
