Taylor Becomes Four-Time ALL-PSAC Performer

EDINBORO, PA - The Edinboro University of Pennsylvania women's softball team placed four members on the PSAC West second team. Pitching standout Brianne Taylor (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBeouf), Marlana Mucciarone (Kirtland, OH/Kirtland), Natalie Kostelansky (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) and April Hurd (Robinson TWP., PA/Montour) all received PSAC West all-conference second team honors on Thursday, May 10.

This season the Fighting Scots finished with a 9-28 record overall and 5-15 mark in PSAC play.

Taylor finished the season with a 7-19 record, but maintained an impressive 2.63 ERA. The Fort LeBeouf High School product worked 157.2 innings, striking out 166 batters while walking 47. The opposition batted only .209 versus Taylor, who also recorded 2 shutouts on the year.

Taylor ranked first in the PSAC with 7.37 strikeouts per game and second in innings pitched.

In the opening game of the season, Taylor posted a career-high 18 strikeouts in a 5-4 win over Barton. On six occasions she posted 10 or more strikeouts in a contest this season.

Taylor completed her career at Edinboro with a 37-45 record, while posting a school record 515 career strikeouts. Her strikeout total also ranks sixth all-time in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Taylor finished just two wins shy of matching the school mark of 39 career victories set by Kathy Mazur.

The Waterford, PA native pitched in 88 games working 526.2 innings, while giving up only 435 hits. Taylor also posted 10 shutouts during her four-year stint at Edinboro.

The senior hurler is the first four-time selection under coach Dan Gierlak, receiving second-team honors for the third time in her career. A year ago she garnered first team honors.

Hurd received second team accolades for the second straight year. The senior outfielder hit .275 with 16 runs scored, a team-best 14 RBI and 30 base hits. Hurd recorded ten extra base hits with 3 home runs, 3 triples and 4 doubles.

The Robinson Township, PA native was the PSAC West Rookie of the Year as a freshman when she batted .385 with 20 runs scored and 17 RBI. During her four-year career, Hurd batted .301 with 135 hits, 66 runs scored, 48 runs batted in and 6 home runs.

Kostelansky, a freshman utility player, led Edinboro with 32 hits and a .305 batting average. In 37 games the Avon Lake, OH native scored 10 runs with 5 doubles and 13 RBI.

Mucciarone, a junior transfer from Lakeland Community College, batted .248 with a team-high 17 runs scored in her first year with the Fighting Scots. Mucciarone also had 9 extra base hits, including a team-high 5 triples, with 13 runs batted in while playing in all 37 contests.
