WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM DOWNS MILLERSVILLE IN DRAMATIC FASHION

Sophomore Andrea Linfield Nets Game-Winner in Final Minute

EDINBORO, PA - A pair of sophomores proved to be the difference for the Edinboro University women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon, shutting out PSAC opponent Millersville by a 1-0 score, improving to 6-6-1 overall, and 4-4-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Andrea Linfield (Etobicoke, ONT/Richview C.I.) netted the game-winner for coach Gary Kagiavias with 0:54 seconds remaining in the match, striking her shot over the head of Millersville keeper Heidi Lininger from 18 yards out. It was her third goal this season, and the fourth game-winning goal of her career.

Linfield's score came just 19 seconds after Edinboro keeper Amy Stevens (Burlington, ONT/Nelson) made a diving save on Millersville leading-scorer Becky Morris' attempt from inside the goal box. It was only the second save of the contest for Stevens, giving her 45 in seven matches this season.

Stevens lowered her goals against average to 1.43 in her second shutout of the season. The sophomore has a 3-4 record for the Fighting Scots.

The Edinboro offensive unit continually pressured the Marauder keeper, holding a 28-6 advantage in shot attempts. Lininger made 16 saves in the loss.

Millersville drops to 6-6-0 overall and 3-4-0 in the PSAC. The Fighting Scots avenged last season's 3-0 loss to the Mauraders, but are still down 3-2 in the all-time series.

Edinboro concludes its seven-game homestand tomorrow afternoon, hosting non-conference foe Shepherd at 1 p.m.
