EDINBORO, PA - Despite not having a player on the All-PSAC West first team, seventh-year coach Lynn Theehs guided the Edinboro University volleyball team to a conference co-championship and a fifth straight 20-plus win season. Theeh Ashley Walton (Mt. Wolf, PA/Northeastern) was also recognized by the conference as the PSAC West Rookie of the Year.
While first team recognition avoided them, three members of the Edinboro University volleyball team did receive 2000 All-PSAC West second team accolades. Seniors Lisa Poeschl (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) and Abby Galcik (Brackenridge, PA/Knoch) were joined by Walton on the second team.
Theehs guided a young, inexperienced team to the school s 13th consecutive PSAC Championship match appearance and a fifth straight trip to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament. During her tenure, Edinboro has won six PSAC regular season championships and three conference post-season titles. Thee 165-76 record and .685 winning percentage rank second only to Glen Conley in the Edinboro coaching record books. The Edinboro mentor also received PSAC Coach of the Year honors in 1994, 1996 and 1997.
Walton, a 5'10" middle hitter, paces the team in kills (377), hitting percentage (.372) and blocks (70). She will be the first freshman to lead Edinboro in those three categories during Theehs' seven-year tenure. Poeschl, a 5'5" setter, is Edinboro s all-time assists leader with 4,380 career assists. Poeschl, a three-time All-PSAC West selection, also set a new high for assists in a match with 85 assists against Indiana (PA), this year. The senior now has the top four single-match assist totals. Galcik, a 5'8" senior, leads the team with 45 service aces and is second in both kills (304) and digs (292). Galcik, an outside hitter, has been in double-figures in kills 15 times and digs 13 times.
Laura Hall of Indiana (PA) was named the PSAC West Player of the Year. She is joined on the first team by Lock Haven's Stefanie LaFata and Kathryn Stallings, California s Dingding Lu and Rachel May and Sally Scott of Slippery Rock. The second team features the Edinboro trio of Walton, Poeschl and Galcik along with Lock Haven s Kelli Crouch, Shana Fessette and Kara Warnke. Ying Xu of California (PA) completes the second team.
