BERNARD HENRY SELECTED TO PLAY IN THE CACTUS BOWL

EDINBORO, PA - Fortune has smiled on Bernard Henry (Wadesboro, NC/Anson/Vermilion CC), in more ways than one. For years Division II football teams have had an all-star game, known as the Snow Bowl and played in Fargo, North Dakota. This past summer the contest was moved to Kingsville, TX and renamed the Cactus Bowl. Henry will continue Edinboro's tradition of a player competing in the Division II all-star game.

The Cactus Bowl is scheduled for January 12, 2001, with Henry being chosen to play for the East team. It marks the seventh time in the eight-year history of the event that a Fighting Scot has been chosen.

Henry is a 5'11", 192 lb. tailback who recently earned first team All-PSAC West honors for the second straight year. A former junior college transfer, he led the Fighting Scots to a 5-6 finish while rushing for 1,054 yards on 177 carries with 7 TDs. He became just the fourth Edinboro ballcarrier to gain 1,000 yards more than once, joining Gerald Thompson, Larry Jackson and Al Raines, despite missing one-and-a-half games due to injuries. Henry topped the 100-yard mark four times, with a high of 263 yards on 29 carries against Mercyhurst. That represented the fourth-highest single game total.

Henry also finished as the third-leading receiver with 14 catches for 132 yards. He added one kickoff return, taking it back 99 yards for a touchdown against California (PA). He narrowly missed a second 200-yard rushing game against the Vulcans, finishing with 198 yards on just 16 carries.

As a junior, Henry gained 1,046 yards on 220 rushes with 8 TDs, adding 16 receptions for 159 yards and 2 TDs. He finished with six 100-yard efforts, with a high of 165 yards on 19 carries vs. Indiana (PA).

While playing just two seasons, Henry departs as Edinboro's sixth all-time rusher with 2,100 career yards. He also stands sixth in career carries with 397. His 2000 rushing total ranks 11th, bumping his 1999 season back to 12th.
