TEPPER ANNOUNCES FOOTBALL CAPTAINS

Henry, Davis and Holton To Serve As Captains

EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro University football coach Lou Tepper has announced that Bernard Henry (Wadesboro, NC/Anson/Vermilion CC), Derrick Davis (Cleveland, OH/Glenville) and David Holton (Altoona, PA/Altoona) have been named captains for the 2000 Edinboro football team. Henry was named the offensive captain, Davis on the defensive side, and Holton for the special teams.

The Fighting Scots used game captains throughout the season, but Tepper felt it was important to appoint captains. "All three were good choices," noted the first-year coach. "Bernard was an unusual resource for our kids being married with two kids. Being able to balance things so well really says something about him. Derrick Davis is an unusual story. He missed a season, then came back and completely turned around his academic work. He was the only player I allowed to speak before the team at the end of the year. He spoke about academics. It really says a lot about how far he has come. For David to be a junior and a captain is impressive. His intensity on special teams is what we strive for. He has that "worker bee" mentality. It is really special that he captured the respect of the team."

Henry is a senior tailback who topped the 1,000-yard plateau in rushing for the second consecutive year. He finished with 1,054 yards on 177 carries with 7 TDs, becoming just the fourth Fighting Scot ballcarrier to have multiple 1,000-yard seasons. He finished his career with 2,100 yards on 397 carries, both figures ranking sixth all-time. Henry was a first team All-PSAC West choice for the second straight year.

Davis is a senior strong safety who finished the season with 43 tackles. He tied for the team lead with 10 tackles for a loss, while leading the team with 5 sacks. He added one interception, a forced fumble and a pass broken up. Davis capped his season by being selected to the All-PSAC West first team.

Holton is a junior defensive end who was a standout on defensive end. He handled the long snapping duties and was also one of the top tacklers on the special teams units. Holton finished the season with 23 tackles, including 4 sacks, and blocked one punt. That led to the winning touchdown against West Chester.

Edinboro concluded its first season under Tepper with a 5-6 record, winning its final three games.
