BERNARD HENRY NAMED PSAC WEST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

EDINBORO, PA - A year ago, Bernard Henry (Wadesboro, NC/Anson) topped the 100-yard mark in six games. But each time another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference performer would turn in a better outing. Following this past week's outstanding effort in leading Edinboro to a 14-6 win over Mercyhurst, no one could outshine the senior tailback. Henry was named the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week after setting career-highs with 263 yards and 29 carries.

Most importantly, Henry accounted for both of the Fighting Scot scores. The first came on Edinboro's second possession of the game, as he burst 68 yards to give the Fighting Scots a 7-0 lead. The second score was almost as long, covering 61 yards early in the third quarter to put the final score on the board for both teams.

Henry's 263 yards is the fourth-highest single game total. Gerald Thompson holds the school record with 316 yards against California (PA) in 1998. Al Raines rushed for 295 yards vs. Geneva in 1969, and Larry Jackson accumulated 275 yards vs. Mansfield in 1994. Henry added 2 receptions for 23 yards against the Lakers.

A 5'11", 192 lb. tailback, Henry is a former junior college standout in his second season with the Fighting Scots. He was a first team All-PSAC West selection a year ago after gaining 1,046 yards with 8 TDs. He has 369 yards on 59 carries this year, with 2 TDs. That gives him 1,415 yards for his career, good for 12th place all-time at Edinboro.
