EDINBORO, PA - The Edinboro University men's and women's track teams sent five runners to compete in the prestigious Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania on Thursday, April 25. Four of the five Edinboro runners placed in the relay event.
Kathy Breisch (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown), Lisa Petsche (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman), and Jocelyn Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) represented Edinboro from the women's team. On the men's side, Aaron Rowe (Dublin, OH/Dublin) and Yi Min Wu (Tian Jin, China) represented the Fighting Scots.
Breisch ran in the women's steeplechase, placing 12th with a time of 11:13.70. She improved her NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 11:28.43, which ranked 18th in the country.
Petsche ran in the 10,000 meters, capturing 18th place with a time of 35:51.64 and improving on her NCAA provisional mark. As of last week, she had the fifth-best time in Division II in the 10,000 meters covering the distance in 36:17.19.
Smith entered the relays with a choice to run in either the 5,000 meters or 10,000 meters. She placed 25th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:18.28, improving on her NCAA provisional qualifying time by almost 20 seconds.
On the men's side, head coach Doug Watts was expecting Rowe to finish in the top four or five in Division II, however, he was disqualified and did not finish the race. Earlier in the season, Rowe met the provisional qualifying time for nationals in the 5,000 meters and was ranked 16th with a time of 14.43.93 as of April 23rd.
Wu ran the 10,000 meters, recording the best Boro finish with 11th place. His time of 30:02.94 qualifies him under the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time.
The Edinboro University men's and women's track and field teams return to action on Saturday, April 27, at the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational.
