EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro University men's basketball standout Kenny Tate (Philadelphia,PA/ Chester) has been named the PSAC West Player of the Week for the second straight week. Tate shares the honor this week with Clarion's David Shearer. It marks the third time this season Tate has been recognized by the PSAC.
Tate, a 6'3", 210 lb. forward, spearheaded Edinboro's amazing comeback from a 24-point deficit against 13th-ranked Indiana(Pa.). He scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Fighting Scots rallied for the 77-75 upset. Tate made 10 of 23 shots and was 1 of 2 from the line, adding 3 assists and 4 steals.
He recorded his 12th double-double of the season and 13th game with 20-or-more points in Edinboro's 83-75 win over Shippensburg on Saturday. Tate finished with 25 points, making 11 of 20 field goals and 3 of 3 free throws. He added 3 assists, a block, and 2 steals.
Tate boosted his scoring average to 18.7 ppg., and is now at 10.4 rpg. He has moved into fourth place in both career scoring (1,497 points) and career rebounding (809 rebounds). He also ranks in the top ten in career field goals made and attempted, and free throws made and attempted, all in just 78 career games.
The two wins boosted Edinboro's overall record to 16-8, and PSAC West ledger to 7-3. The Fighting Scots have clinched their sixth PSAC playoff berth in the last seven years. They return to action on Wednesday, February 20, playing at Slippery Rock.
