EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro University junior forward Nicole Vlahovic (Oakville, ONT/Queen Elizabeth Park), a member of the Edinboro women's soccer team, broke the record for career points in Wednesday's 2-2 double overtime tie, against PSAC foe Indiana (PA).
Vlahovic entered Wednesday's match with 65 points, one shy of Cara Peyton who held the record of 66 points. Peyton, a Fighting Scot from 1996-99, had recorded 19 goals and 28 assists during her collegiate career.
The Fighting Scots traveled to 24th ranked Indiana (PA), for the conference match. Following an early IUP goal, Edinboro rallied back with Vlahovic's first of two goals at 27:29. This goal put Vlahovic at 67 career points, a new Edinboro record. Vlahovic scored again at 32:34, unassisted, giving the Fighting Scots the advantage going into the second half, and also improving her record to 69 career points. IUP would rally back and score 10 minutes into the second half to tie the game. Regulation time ended in a 2-2 tie and the game went to overtime. After two 15-mintue overtime periods, the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Vlahovic will look to add to her career points record with the remaining nine games this season, along with her senior season next fall. Vlahovic currently has contributed 27 goals and has assisted on 15 Edinboro scores this season. She led the team last season contributing 11 goals and 3 assists for 25 points. Vlahovic finished second with points on the season her freshman year, compiling 24 points; accounting for 8 goals and 8 assists.
Senior forward Amy Hazen (Erie, PA/Iroquois) is following Peyton and Vlahovic in points. Hazen has tallied 61 points; accounting for 25 goals and 11 assists this far in her Edinboro career.
