AARON ROWE HONORED BY NCAA II TRACK AND CROSS COUNTRY ASSOCIATION

EDINBORO, PA - The NCAA Division II Track and Cross Country Coaches Associations recently announced their initial Scholar-Athlete of the Year selections for the 2003-04 seasons.

Edinboro's Aaron Rowe (Dublin, OH/Dublion Scioto) earned three awards. He was selected as the 2003 Men's Cross Country Student Athlete of the Year; the Men's Outdoor Track & Field Student Athlete of the Year; and was also named the Men's National Student Athlete of the Year.

The winning student athletes were screened on a basis of their collegiate career academic achievements, athletic accomplishments, leadership, and community service. Scholarships are administered and fully funded by the Division II Track and Cross Country Coaches Association and ist individual member coaches.

Rowe received a $2,000 scholarship award, which is being put towards his graduate degree in Education at the University of Dayton. He graduated in May with a 3.45 GPA.

Rowe won every race as a senior until finishing second at the PSAC Championships. He came back a week later to capture the NCAA Division II East Regional title. The senior was overcome by heat exhaustion at Nationals and finished in 80th place. He was named the 2004 Coaches association Cross Country Runner of the Year and finished second in the 10,000 meter run at the 2003 NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships. Rowe previously represented the United States as a member of the U.S. National Junior Team.

On the women's side, Slippery Rock's Karyn McCready was named the Women's Outdoor Track & Field Student Athlete of the Year and the Women's National Student Athlete of the Year. Kristen Peterson of Northern State was selected the Women's Cross Country Student Athlete of the Year, with Holly Fehrenbach of Fort Hays State honored as the Indoor Track & Field Student Athlete of the Year.
