EDINBORO SWEEPS PSAC FOOTBALL AWARDS

Burke Named Offensive Player of the Week, Fragale Defensive Player of the Week

EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro University swept the PSAC West football honors for this past weekend as Andre Burke (Wilkinsburg, PA/Valley) was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Seth Fragale (Emporium, PA/Cameron County) was chosen the Defensive Player of the Week. Edinboro improved to 5-2 overall and moved into a tie for first place in the PSAC West with Shippensburg with a 3-1 record thanks to a 38-14 win over Indiana(Pa.).

Burke won the award for the second straight week and third time this year after becoming the first ballcarrier in Edinboro history to rush for 200 yards in back-to-back games. The 5'10", 205 lb. junior gained a career-high 219 yards on 36 carries against IUP, scoring his 14th touchdown of the season on a 28-yard run. It marked his fifth 100-yard game of the season, and the 219 yards is the 12th-highest single-game total. In addition, it was the fourth-highest total ever vs. IUP. A week earlier Burke ran for 203 yards in a win over California(Pa.).

The effort raised Burke's season total to 1,072 yards on 178 carries. He ranks 12th in season rushing yards and is the tenth Fighting Scot to go over 1,000 yards rushing. His 14 touchdowns rushing is the fifth-highest season total.

Fragale keyed an Edinboro defense which shut down a high-powered IUP attack, limiting the Indians to 306 total yards, including just 58 on the ground. The 6'2", 217 lb. outside linebacker led Edinboro with 12 tackles, including a sack for an 11-yard loss and an interception, his second of the season. It marks the second Player of the Week honor for Fraglae this season.

The junior leads Edinboro with 64 tackles, and is also tied for the team lead with 6.5 tackles for losses. He has a team-high 3 sacks, with 2 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. Fragale has had 10-or-more tackles in three games this season.

Edinboro returns to action on Saturday, October 23, playing at Slippery Rock. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
