EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro University junior Seth Fragale (Emporium, PA/Cameron County) has been named the PSAC West Defensive Player of the week for his performance in Edinboro's 21-10 win at Clarion.
A 6'2", 217 lb. rush linebacker, Fragale matched his career high with 13 tackles, set earlier in the year against East Stroudsburg. He had 5 solo tackles, with 2.5 tackles for losses totaling 15 yards, a sack and a pass broken up. He helped key a defensive unit that limited Clarion to 169 yards, with 65 of those yards coming on one three-play scoring drive. The defense was put to the test in the first half, as Edinboro turned the ball over three times in its own territory. Five of Clarion's six first half possessions began in Edinboro territory. Despite that the Golden Eagles managed just a field goal.
The key series in the game came early in the second quarter, with Clarion having a third-and-goal from just inches away. Fragale and a teammate stopped Clarion's Marcus Lowe just shy of the goal line, and on fourth down Brandon Dando fumbled the snap and the Golden Eagles failed to score.
Fragale, a second team All-PSAC West selection a year ago, currently leads the Fighting Scots with 43 tackles. He has 4.5 tackles for losses, is tied for the lead with 2 sacks, has recovered 2 fumbles, has an interception and a pass breakup. Edinboro (3-2, 1-1 in the PSAC West) will play host to 25th-ranked California(Pa.) on Saturday, October 9 as the Fighting Scots celebrate Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
