EDINBORO, PA - The Edinboro University football team posted its fourth straight win last Saturday with a 38-26 win at Slippery Rock, but lost ground in the NCAA Division II playoff chase. The Fighting Scots dropped one spot in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region rankings this week. The Fighting Scots are 6-2 overall with a PSAC crossover contest at Kutztown this Saturday, October 30.
The top six teams will represent the Northeast Region in the Division II playoffs, although that is not entirely true with the "earned access" rule. If a conference's top-ranked team is not ranked in the top six, but is in the top ten, that team will be selected over the sixth-ranked team. In this instance, the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's top-ranked team is Shepherd at 12th. Should Shepherd move into the 10th position or higher, it would go.
Thanks to an overtime win over then top-ranked East Stroudsburg, West Chester (7-2) moved from sixth to fourth, C.W. Post (6-2) also dropping a spot. A total of seven PSAC schools show up in the Northeast Region poll, with Shippensburg first at 8-1. East Stroudsburg (7-1) dropped one spot to second, with Bentley (7-1) remaining third.
Several key contests will be played this weekend, including Merrimack, ranked eighth with a 7-1 record, hosting C.W. Post. West Chester faces another challenge in Bloomsburg, the seventh-ranked team.
