EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro University's Jakim Donaldson (Pittsburgh, PA/Oliver) has been named to the Street & Smith's 2004 College Basketball Preview All-American Team. The 6'8", 200 lb. forward was accorded preseason honorable mention All-American honors. He is the only player from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference to earn All-American honors.
Donaldson helped Edinboro to a 14-14 finish a year ago, but the Fighting Scots finished second in the PSAC West with an 8-4 ledger. He earned first team All-PSAC West honors for the second straight year, was an all-region choice, and was a second team Daktronics Division II All-East Region choice.
The senior averaged a double-double for the second straight year at 14.8 ppg. and 11.5 ppg.. He led the PSAC in rebounding while finishing second nationally, and was eighth in the PSAC in scoring and 11th in field goal percentage (51.5 pct.). In addition, he blocked 62 shots a year ago, good for second in the conference and 14th in Division II. All told, Donaldson finished with a PSAC-leading 17 double-doubles.
In 2002-03 Donaldson averaged 13.4 ppg. and 10.8 rpg., ranking 11th in Division II in rebounding.
Donaldson's story is remarkable considering he was a former walk-on virtually unrecruited by anyone out of Oliver High School in Pittsburgh. As a freshman he averaged 3.2 ppg. and 3.5 rpg. in 23 games.
Donaldson was named the PSAC West Player of the Week three times in 2003-04. He ended the season with seven double-doubles in his final eight games. He scored in double figures in 22 games, including the last ten games, and pulled down double figure rebounds 21 times. In addition, he led the team in scoring 14 times and in rebounding 23 games. Donaldson pulled down 322 rebounds, the third-highest single-season total, and his 62 blocks ranked seventh. He has moved into 31st place in career scoring with 850 points, is ninth in career rebounds with 694, and is fifth in career blocked shots with 133.
