EDINBORO, PA - Lock Haven scored a goal less than a minute into Wednesday's match with Edinboro and made it stand up as the Lady Eagles claimed a 1-0 win. Edinboro, ranked eighth in the Northeast Region, falls to 4-4-2 overall and 2-2-0 in PSAC West action. Lock Haven moves to .500 at 5-5-1, and is 3-1-0 in the PSAC West. The Lady Eagles are 3-0-1 in their last for matches.
The match had barely started when Lock Haven moved the ball into Edinboro's end, with Brooke Rangi taking the ball on the right wing and passing to Holly Homsher in front of the goal. Homsher's left-footed shot from 25 yards out beat Abbey Mortus (Fairview Park, OH/Fairview) for her first goal of the year.
Lock Haven would dominate play in the first half, outshooting the Fighting Scots, 12-2. Edinboro was able to pressure Lock Haven goalkeeper Heather Ireland more in the second half, but the Lady Eagles still held a wide 21-6 edge in shots. Edinboro had three opportunities to score in the final 12 minutes but were denied, including a free kick which Ireland caught for her lone save.
Mortus played the first half in goal for Edinboro, registering 4 saves. Trish Chilcott (Erie, PA/ Harbor Creek) came in for the second half and had 5 saves.
Edinboro returns to action on Wednesday, October 6, hosting Indiana(Pa.) at 4:00 p.m.
