EDINBORO TRACK AND FIELD COMPETES IN FIRST PSAC QUAD

Three Fighting Scots Claim Individual Events

EDINBORO, PA - Three Edinboro University runners captured first place in individual events at the PSAC Quadrangular Meet at Indiana (PA) on Saturday. Teams from IUP, Clarion, Slippery Rock, and the Fighting Scots competed in the event. Indiana (PA) won the women's crown with 187 points, while Slippery Rock took first place on the men's side with 193 points. Edinboro finished in fourth place in both standings, with 83 points for the women and 69 points for the men.

Cross-country National Champion Yi Min Wu (Tian Jin, China) returned to form, finishing in first place in the 1,500-meter run. Wu outdistanced teammate Aaron Rowe (Dublin, OH/Dublin Scioto) by two seconds, 4:00.50 to 4:02.61, respectively. Rowe, last week's PSAC Track and Field Runner of the Week, also finished in third place in the 800 meters (2:00.16), less than two seconds behind the first-place finisher Jerry Smith of Clarion (1:58.79). In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Nat Wibberly (Wyomissing, PA/ Wyomissing) ran a time of 9:58.85, finishing in first place by over 23 seconds.

On the women's side, Fighting Scots finished one-two in the 3,000-meter race. Sophomore Kathy Breisch (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) took first place, finishing the race in 10:23.76. Junior Ashley Hansen (Erie, PA/McDowell) ran a 10:41.55, good for second place behind Breisch.

Several other Fighting Scots turned in strong performances at the Quad. Sophomore Lynann Lorenz (Vestal, NY/Vestal) turned in her best performance of the year, finishing in second place in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:26. Amy Shinskie (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) posted a time of 19:31, good for third place. Junior Carrie McKeon (Altoona, PA/Altoona) took third place in the 1,5000 meters with a 4:58.20 time, 20 seconds behind the leader.

Kris Lindenberger (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) jumped 4'9" in the high jump to finish in fourth place. In the shot put, senior Meighan Gast (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) took third place with a distance of 39'1/2". Fran Graves (Waterford, PA/Ft. LeBoeuf) finished in second place in the pole vault, clearing 8'6".

Sophomore Mickey West (Albion, NY/Albion Central) captured third place in the 5000-meter run, finishing with a time of 16:05.12.
