The philosophy of athletics at Edinboro University is considered an integral part of the institutional program of education that provides experiences that will assist in the development of the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of the student-athlete. As an institution of higher learning, we are committed to the development of the entire individual.
Student-athletes are stimulated to excel, but the principles of good sportsmanship prevail at all times to enhance the educational value of the athletic contest. We believe that participation is a privilege that carries with it responsibilities to the University, the community, the team, and to the student- athletes themselves. These experiences also contribute to the knowledge, skill, and emotional pattern that our student-athletes posses; thereby making them better citizens. Student-athletes will strive to be involved as upstanding members of the Edinboro community and learn as much as possible from the overall educational experience. This includes establishing and maintaining strong relationships with faculty members, and fellow student-athletes as well as the student body at large.
Athletes understand that earning a degree is the primary goal of the student; that meeting all academic responsibilities, including regular class attendance and the completion of all assignments in a timely manner is mandatory. The Edinboro University student-athlete will also understand that the assumption of personal responsibility is at the heart of the educational experience. All athletes should constantly be aware that they represent the University, the Athletic Department, and their team as well as themselves. Upper-class student-athletes should consciously strive to serve as role models for new student-athletes.
The University promotes an environment in which fair and equitable distribution of overall athletic opportunities, benefits, and resources are available to men and women an on in which student-athletes, coaches, and athletic administrators are not subjected to gender based discrimination. No individual shall be discriminated against on the basis of gender or race in intercollegiate athletics at Edinboro University.
