[Red Ball Bullet] EDINBORO ANNOUNCES 2004 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE (4/20/04)

EDINBORO, PA - The Edinboro University football team will play a ten-game schedule in 2004, with five contests at Sox Harrison Stadium. The Fighting Scots lost an 11th contest when New Haven dropped its football program in February. The season gets underway with a pair of home games before Edinboro hits the road for three straight games. (more)


[Red Ball Bullet] RAJI EL-AMIN NAMED TO FOOTBALL GAZETTE ALL-AMERICA TEAM (1/16/04)

EDINBORO, PA - Though just a freshman, Edinboro University's Raji El-Amin (Rochester, NY/Wilson Magnet) earned plenty of honors this past season. El-Amin was a major reason the Fighting Scot football team finished with a 9-3 record and was selected for the NCAA Division II Playoffs for the first time since 1995. EDINBORO, PA - A year Sean McNicholas became the first Edinboro football player named to the Associated Press Little All-America Team since 1997. A year later a pair of Fighting Scots have been named to the Little All-America Team after Edinboro finished with a 9-3 record and made the NCAA Division II Playoffs for the first time since 1995. EDINBORO, PA - A total of five Edinboro players have been named to the 2003 D2football.com All-Northeast Region Teams. In addition, D2football.com chose its All-Northeast Region Freshman Team, with two Fighting Scots recognized, including Raji El-Amin (Rochester, NY/Wilson Magnet), who was named the Defensive Freshman of the Year. [Red Ball Bullet] JOE VALVODA NAMED TO AFCA DIVISION II ALL-AMERICAN TEAM (12/10/03)

EDINBORO, PA - When Joe Valvoda (Kenston, OH/Mantua) came to Edinboro, he walked into Scott Browning's office and told Edinboro's offensive coordinator and offensive line coach that his goal was to be an All-American. Four year's later, the Fighting Scot senior has achieved that goal. (more)


[Red Ball Bullet] EDINBORO FALLS TO SAGINAW VALLEY STATE, 33-9, IN NCAA PLAYOFFS (11/23/03)

EDINBORO, PA - The Edinboro football team found out why Saginaw Valley State was ranked number one in the country. Playing in the first round of the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional, the Fighting Scots suffered a 33-9 loss to the home-standing Cardinals in a game that was much closer than the final score indicates. [Red Ball Bullet] FIGHTING SCOTS FACE TOP-RANKED SAGINAW VALLEY STATE IN FIRST PLAYOFF APPEARANCE SINCE 1995 (11/19/03)

Edinboro entered the 2003 season with six straight losing seasons. The fact that the Fighting Scots were chosen fifth in the PSAC West Coaches Preseason Poll seemed to suggest a seventh straight losing campaign was imminent. But Edinboro capped a remarkable turnaround season with their sixth straight win last Saturday, 48-13 at Lock Haven, to finish as PSAC West co-champions at 5-1, and 9-2 overall. (more [pdf])


[Red Ball Bullet] EDINBORO SELECTED FOR NCAA DIVISION II FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS (11/16/03)

Edinboro will play at undefeated Saginaw Valley State (11-0), the top-ranked team in Division II, on Saturday, November 22 in the first round of the Northeast Regional. Bentley (10-0) will host defending Division II national champion Grand Valley State (10-1) in the other semifinal. (more)


[Red Ball Bullet] EDINBORO CLAIMS SHARE OF PSAC WEST CROWN WITH 48-13 WIN AT LOCK HAVEN (11/15/03)

EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro claimed a share of the PSAC West Championship this afternoon with its sixth straight win, a 48-13 victory at Lock Haven. With the victory the Fighting Scots improve to 8-2 overall 5-1 in PSAC West play, tying Indiana (PA) for the Western Division crown. Edinboro last won the PSAC West title in 1995. (more)

EDINBORO, PA - Justin Bouch (Brackenridge, PA/Highlands) threw for three touchdowns as Edinboro continued its run for an NCAA Division II Northeast Region playoff berth with a convincing 34-3 win over California (PA) on Saturday. The victory was the fifth straight for Edinboro, as the Fighting Scots improved to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in PSAC West action. (more)

Riding a four-game winning, its longest since 1995, the Edinboro football team plays its final home regular season contest against California (PA). EDINBORO, PA - In one of its most dominating performances in years, Edinboro went on the road and handed Kutztown a 56-3 defeat on Saturday. The 23rd-ranked Fighting Scots improve to 7-2 with the PSAC crossover win, while Kutztown fell to 5-4. Edinboro is ranked fifth in the Northeast Region, while the Golden Bears came in ranked tenth. Edinboro assured itself of its first winning season since 1996 last Saturday with a workmanlike 20-3 defeat of visiting Slippery Rock. The win pushed the Fighting Scots to 6-2 overall. Now the Scots have much bigger things on their mind, as they are tied with Indiana (PA) and Shippensburg for first place in the PSAC West with a 3-1 record, and are gaining recognition nationally, as well. Edinboro has moved up to fifth in the Northeast Region and is 23rd in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Poll. EDINBORO, PA - The Edinboro University football team moved up one spot into sixth place in the latest NCAA Division II Northeast Region rankings. The Fighting Scots were seventh a week ago, after being unranked heading into the Indiana (PA) contest. A 28-20 win over the Indians vaulted the Scots into the rankings last week. [Red Ball Bullet] FIGHTING SCOTS IMPRESSIVE IN 35-6 WIN AT CLARION (10/19/03)

EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro passed its first test as a favorite with flying colors, traveling to Clarion and handing the Golden Eagles a 35-6 defeat. A letdown could well have been in order following last week's upset of fourth-ranked Indiana (PA), but the Fighting Scots turned in a solid effort in all three phases of the game to improve to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in PSAC West action. The win was Edinboro's first at Clarion since 1995 and snapped a two-losing streak to the Golden Eagles. (more)

EDINBORO, PA - A year ago Indiana (PA) came in to Sox Harrison Stadium and spoiled Edinboro's Homecoming. With IUP leading the Fighting Scots 20-7 late in the third quarter on Saturday, it appeared the Indians were well on their way to celebrating their 2003 Homecoming with a win. But someone forgot to tell Edinboro. The Fighting Scots rallied with 21 straight points to hand the fourth-ranked Indians a 28-20 defeat in what will go down as one of the greatest wins ever for Edinboro. (more)

EDINBORO, PA - Patrick Ferguson hauled in a 24-yard scoring pass from Rick Henshaw with 59 seconds left as 22nd-ranked Shippensburg rallied for a wild 40-34 win over Edinboro in the PSAC West opener for both schools. (more)


[Red Ball Bullet] EDINBORO CELEBRATES HOMECOMING VS. 22ND-RANKED RED RAIDERS (10/2/03)

Edinboro will celebrate Homecoming Weekend against an opponent who has given the Fighting Scots fits in recent years. Shippensburg has defeated Edinboro two years in a row and five of the last six years, with the Wing-T offense one of the few head coach Lou Tepper has not been able to solve. However, it should be noted that the last two games, and four of the last six, were played at Seth Grove Stadium. Both clubs bring 3-1 records into the contest, with Edinboro riding a three-game winning streak. EDINBORO, PA - The Edinboro University football team opened its 2003 campaign on Thursday, August 28, suffering a 35-11 defeat at Division I-AA powerhouse Youngstown State in front of 16,093 fans in Stambaugh Stadium.
