FOUR FIGHTING SCOTS EARN FOOTBALL GAZETTE ALL-AMERICAN HONORS (1/18/05)EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro University placed four players on the 2004 Football Gazette All-America Football Teams. Tailback Andre Burke (Wilkinsburg, PA/Valley) led the way, landing a spot on the third team. Offensive tackle Greg Bzorek (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch), outside linebacker Seth Fragale (Emporium, PA/ Cameron County) and placekicker Kody Robertson (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Davidson) were named to the honorable mention All-American team. Edinboro finished the year with a 9-3 record, losing to East Stroudsburg in the Northeast Regional semifinals. The Fighting Scots finished as PSAC West co-champions for the second straight year. MATT PHILLIPS SELECTED FOR CACTUS BOWL (12/8/04)EDINBORO, PA - Professional football scouts have been on Edinboro's campus on numerous occasions this fall, getting to know Fighting Scot fullback Matt Phillips (Monaca, PA/Monaca). Now the NFL scouts will have another chance to assess his talents. Phillips has been selected to play in the Cactus Bowl, the annual Division II All-Star held in Kingsville, TX. FIGHTING SCOTS LOSE HEARTBREAKER AT EAST STROUDSBURG (11/21/04)EAST STROUDSBURG, PA - All year long the Edinboro University football team has built its success on forcing turnovers. The Fighting Scots forced East Stroudsburg into five turnovers in Saturday's NCAA Division II Northeast Regional semifinal game, but it was the one they couldn't corral that spelled defeat. East Stroudsburg scored the winning touchdown with 22 seconds left for a 36-32 win, snapping Edinboro's seven-game winning streak. (more)
EAST STROUDSBURG PLAYOFF PREVIEW (11/16/04)Thanks to a 47-44 win at snowy Bentley, Edinboro picked up its first NCAA playoff win since 1990 and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional. DEFENSE, BOUCH COME UP BIG IN PLAYOFF WIN AT BENTLEY (11/14/04)WALTHAM, Mass. - With a final score reading "Edinboro 47, Bentley 44", it might seem hard to believe that it was the Fighting Scot defense that spelled the difference in Edinboro's first NCAA Division II playoff win since 1990. But after playing on its heels much of the afternoon while trying to figure out an answer for Bentley's record-breaking tandem of Marc Eddy and Dallas Mall, the defense forced two turnovers in the final quarter and staged a defensive stand in the final two minutes. BENTLEY PREVIEW (11/10/04)A pair of teams riding six-game winning streaks square off in the first round of the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Playoffs. After going without a winning season for six consecutive years, Edinboro will now make its second straight appearance in the NCAA Playoffs. EDINBORO TO PLAY BENTLEY IN FIRST ROUND OF NORTHEAST REGIONAL (11/7/04)EDINBORO, PA - The Edinboro University football team has been selected for the NCAA Division II Playoffs for the second year in a row. The announcement was made this afternoon, with the Fighting Scots seeded sixth in the Northeast Region. 24th-RANKED FIGHTING SCOTS DEFEAT LOCK HAVEN, 38-17 (11/6/04)EDINBORO, PA - A year ago the Edinboro University football team ran off a six-game winning streak to conclude the regular season and secure its first NCAA Division II playoff bid since 1995. Head coach Lou Tepper is hoping the same thing will happen this year. His Fighting Scots took care of the first part of the equation, defeating Lock Haven, 38-17, for its sixth straight triumph. Now Edinboro must wait until Sunday afternoon to find out if it is six teams selected for the Northeast Regional. (more)
ANDRE BURKE ONE OF 26 CANDIDATES FOR HARLAN HILL TROPHY (11/3/04)EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro University tailback Andre Burke (Wilkinsburg, PA/Valley) has been named one of six Northeast Regional finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy as the NCAA Division II College Football Player of the Year. EDINBORO RANKED 24th IN AFCA DIVISION II TOP 25 (11/2/04)EDINBORO, PA - It took two months, but Edinboro has re-emerged in the American Football Coaches Association Division II rankings. The Fighting Scots were ranked 21st in the AFCA preseason poll, but fell out after dropping a 20-7 decision to East Stroudsburg in the season opener. After winning five straight games to improve to 7-2, Edinboro has moved back into the poll in the 24th position. (more)

The Fighting Scots entered their final contest a year ago needing a win to clinch a tie with Indiana(Pa.) for the PSAC West title and to clinch an NCAA Division II Playoff berth. A year later, Edinboro needs a victory to do something no other Fighting Scot team has done -- win back-to-back PSAC West championships -- and to inch closer to another postseason bid. (more)

The Fighting Scots played in their fifth Homecoming game of the season, coming away with a hard-fought 23-14 win at Kutztown, scoring the final 16 points. The victory improves Edinboro's record to 4-1 in Homecoming contests. More importantly, the Fighting Scots, ranked sixth in the Northeast Region, have now won five straight games to improve to 7-2 overall. (more)

EDINBORO OUTSCORES 25th-RANKED CALIFORNIA(PA), 42-28 (10/9/04)EDINBORO, PA - Like a pair of heavyweight champions Edinboro and California(Pa.) traded haymakers on Saturday, but when the final round ended the Fighting Scots celebrated Homecoming with a 42-28 win over the 25th-ranked Vulcans in front of 6,219 fans. The win boosted Edinboro, ranked eighth in the Northeast Region, to 4-2 and 2-1 in PSAC West action, while dropping California(Pa.), the ninth-ranked team in the region, to 4-2 and 1-2 in conference play. ANDRE BURKE, DEFENSE WEAR DOWN CLARION, 21-7 (10/2/04)EDINBORO, PA – At 5'10”, 205 lb. Andre Burke (Wilmington, PA/Valley) hardly has the appearance of a workhorse back. Don't tell that to Clarion, however, as Edinboro gave the Golden Eagles a heavy dose of Burke in the second half, plus showcased a stingy defense to ruin Clarion's Homecoming with a 21-10 victory. EDINBORO AT CLARION PREVIEW (9/28/04)Edinboro saw its two-game winning streak snapped last week with a 17-10 setback at 10th-ranked Shippensburg, evening its record at 2-2. Now the Fighting Scots must try to right themselves against a Clarion team which has two reasons to celebrate -- a 35-34 last second win over California(Pa.) to improve to 3-2, and the annual Homecoming festivities. TERWILLIGER AND COMPANY LEAD EAST STROUDSBURG OVER FIGHTING SCOTS (9/4/04)EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro head coach Lou Tepper knew his defense would have its hands full against East Stroudsburg quarterback Jim Terwilliger. The Fighting Scots defeated East Stroudsburg a year ago, 31-20, "limiting" Terwilliger to 288 yards through the air. In addition, sophomore free safety Raji El-Amin (Rochester, NY/Wilson Magnet) has been named to his second preseason All-America Team. Lindy's placed him on its first team. (more)
