Built in 1971, the fieldhouse was named in honor of Arthur J.
McComb, who joined the faculty and staff as football coach in
1946. When the legendary Sox Harrison retired in 1953, he added
several other sports to his coaching responsibilities and
continued to coach until his retirement in 1962. The main campus
gymnasium, offices of the athletic director and coaches of
Edinboro's 16 sports programs are located there, along with a
championship-caliber basketball court, meet-sized swimming pool,
wrestling area, and several health and physical education
department classrooms.
Numerous changes took place during the summer
of 2007. One of the projects completed was the resurfacing of the
gymnasium floor. It now has a bright new look to it, with a large
"E" at the centercourt, flanked by EDINBORO on each
side, and FIGHTING SCOTS on the baseline.

Sox Harrison
Stadium to Undergo Major Renovations
In 1965, the Edinboro State College "Red Raiders"
started the football season on the old field behind Crawford Gym
and ended the year at the newly-completed Sox Harrison Stadium
named in honor of B. Regis "Sox" Harrison, coach and
athletic director from 1919 to 1953. The interior of the old
spectator area, which seats 3,500, was closed in 1993 because of
unacceptable asbestos levels. New bleachers added on the field's
east side in 1995 boosted the facility's total seating capacity to
7,500. New locker rooms and a new press box were also added during
the project.
Baseball/Softball Complex
Edinboro University baseball/softball facilities consist of
practice bullpens, batting cages for both teams, a warning track
and an electronic scoreboard. The left field and right field walls
sit 315 feet from home plate and straight-away center at 400 - the
exact dimensions of Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. The fields
sit across from Sox Harrison Stadium and the tennis courts, and
are adjacent to McComb Fieldhouse. |
