TOM HERR, 1974
Tom Herr for his outstanding career at Edinboro
where he was the schools first national champion in
wrestling and won a record 83 matches. A two-time All-American
heavy weight wrestler who holds the Edinboro mark for pins (42)
and single season record for wins (28). Twice a Pennsylvania
Conference grappling champion and a conference First Team
defensive tackle in football.
ROB MCVEIGH, 1951
Rob McVeigh for his outstanding performances in
basketball as one of the top scorers in Edinboros history.
Selected the most outstanding center on the 1951 West Penn Little
Ten All Conference All Stars when he also won the leagues
scoring title with 36 points. The first Edinboro player to average
over 20 points per game (20.2) and the record holder for the most
free throws in a game (14).
JERRY MIFSUD, 1973
Jerry Mifsud for his spectacular performances in
baseball at Edinboro where he set eight records in a single season
among which were a .417 batting average and seven stolen bases in
a single game while leading the Scots to their best year in
history. Was the Pennsylvania Conferences top All-Star vote
getter and was named the MVP in the Tri-State Coaches Association
All-Star game before joining the pro ranks.
J.J. (JACK) MURRAY
J.J. (Jack) McCurry for his outstanding football
career at Edinboro where he set a season interception record (8)
and the mark (85 yards) for the longest scoring punt return. An
All-American and All-Conference defensive back who played on the
best football team in Edinboros history and was equally
successful in the classroom where he was salutatorian of his
class. Selected Pennsylvania High School Coach of the Year.
KEITH NICOLLS, 1951
Keith Nicolls for his outstanding representation
of Edinboro as both a student athlete, a professional athlete,
teacher and coach. Started every game for three consecutive years
on Sox Harrison coached teams where he was a leading scorer as a
playmaker. Owns a spectacular 72-29 semi-pro pitching record and
guided Conneaut Valley High School to a highly impressive 128-34
win-loss mark in seven seasons.
OSCAR PALMQUIST, 1934
Oscar Palmquist for his outstanding leadership
and performances in basketball during one of the most successful
sports eras in Edinboro's early athletic history. A member of
Edinboro's best basketball team (1931-32, 12-1) that won the
Western Conference title. In recognition of his continued success
as a teacher and coach at Harborcreek High School and at
Oceanside, California.
NETTI MAI RUTTLE
Netti Mai Ruttle for her 25 years of unselfish
and faithful support to women's sports at Edinboro where she built
the foundation for women's athletics. Continually directed her
boundless enthusiasm toward the athletic development of every girl
rather than to the performance of a few while sharing her skills
in 23 different sports. A nationally recognized pioneer in women's
sports.
JACK WEIXEL, 1950
Jack Weixel for his unparalleled accomplishments
in wrestling at Edinboro following service to his country in WWII.
The only wrestler in Edinboro history to win three Pennsylvania
Conference championships (128 lbs.) while also claiming the famed
"Four I" tourney title in Cleveland, Ohio. A highly
successful scholastic wrestler and dedicated high school coach. |
