20th-Ranked Fighting Scots Run Over Tiffin, 42-7
Davis Runs for 112 Yards with 3 TDs
September 27, 2005

EDINBORO, PA – Ulysee Davis (Bryan’s Road, MD/Bishop McNamara) ran for three touchdowns to lead Edinboro to a 42-7 win over visiting Tiffin. The Fighting Scots, ranked 20th by the AFCA and 14th by D2Football.com, improved to 2-1, while Tiffin falls to 1-3.

Edinboro used a methodical offensive attack to subdue the Dragons, finishing the afternoon with 282 yards rushing and 140 yards passing for 422 yards. Edinboro held the ball for 38:33. Tiffin, meanwhile, was limited to 187 total yards, as Edinboro came within 11 seconds of posting its second shutout of the season. Matt Root completed a 20-yard pass to Sean Ostrowski with 11 seconds remaining to spoil the shutout. Tiffin also managed just 85 yards on the ground. Edinboro came into the game ranked first in Division II in rushing defense, allowing 29.5 ypg.

Davis, a 5-9, 193 lb. redshirt freshman, scored on Edinboro’s first two possessions. He capped an 11-play, 65-yard march after Tiffin began the game with a three-and-out with a two-yard run, with all but two plays coming on the ground. Davis carried eight times for 25 yards.

Tiffin moved as far as the Edinboro 30 on its next possession before the Fighting Scot defense forced a punt. Damion Malott (Akron, OH/Akron North) returned the punt 27 yards to the Edinboro 35, and the Fighting Scots followed with a seven-play, 65-yard drive. Davis carried four times for 33 yards, with the final nine coming in an interesting fashion. He took the handoff, fumbled it, then had it bounce back into his hands and he proceeded to score on a nine-yard run. Kody Robertson’s (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Davidson) extra point, one of six he converted on the day, made it 14-0 at the end of one quarter.

Edinboro scored the lone points of the second quarter with 3:56 to play on a five-play, 54-yard drive. Nate Eimer (Oswego, IL/West Aurora) hauled in a 25-yard pass from backup quarterback Josh Hinkle (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic). The score made it 21-0 at the half, with the Scots showing 225 total yards to 69 for Tiffin.

Edinboro’s dominance continued in the second half, as the Scots took the opening kickoff and chewed up 6 minutes and 56 seconds, driving 62 yards on 12 plays. Davis made it three touchdowns on the ground with a seven-yard run, marking the second time this year he has scored three times.

A three-and-out series by Tiffin gave Edinboro the ball at its own 49, and the Scots need just six plays to go 51 yards. Justin Bouch (Brackenridge, PA/Highlands) ended his afternoon with a 10-yard scoring pass to reserve tight end Kyle Witucki (Tarentum, PA/Highlands). Bouch moved into second place in career total offense with 6,112 yards. The senior quarterback completed 14 of 18 passes for 103 yards, adding 12 yards rushing on three carries. Hinkle accounted for Edinboro’s final score. The sophomore scored on a 25-yard run with 2:05 left in the game on a 4th-and-2 play.

Davis ended the afternoon with 112 yards rushing on 23 carries, his second 100-yard effort of the season. DeMarkus Robinson (Orrville, OH/Orrville) added 52 yards on 10 rushes and Kelvin Collins (Glen Burnie, MD/Old Mill) had 51 yards on eight carries.

Garrion Corbin paced the Tiffin offense with 85 yards on eight carries, most coming on a 49-yard run to end the third quarter. Donnie Russell started at quarterback and completed 6 of 20 passes for 23 yards, while Rook completed 6 of 9 passes for 79 yards with an interception.

Edinboro continues a three-game homestand next Saturday, September 24, hosting Shippensburg as PSAC West action begins. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
