IUP Nips Edinboro 2-1 in Women's Soccer Double OT Match
Indians Score Winning Goal with 39 Seconds Left in Second Extra Session
September 27, 2005

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University women’s soccer team suffered a heart-breaking 2-1 loss in double overtime at Indiana(Pa.) on Wednesday (Sept. 21). The Indians’ Lindsay Krumins scored her second goal of the season with just 39 seconds remaining in the second overtime period for the winning goal. She was assisted by Shana Speese.

It marked the second straight contest that the Fighting Scots needed double overtime. This past Saturday Edinboro and Slippery Rock played to a 0-0 tie. The Fighting Scots fall to 4-4-2 overall and are 3-1-1 in PSAC West action. IUP is now 6-1-1 and 2-0-1 in the PSAC West. The Indians entered the match ranked fourth in the Northeast Region, while Edinboro is tied for seventh.

Edinboro opened the scoring at 31:40 as sophomore Janelle Layton (Johnstown, PA/Richland) scored her first career goal. Freshman Ashley Jones (Fairview, PA/Fairview) was credited with the assist.

The Fighting Scots appeared to go up 2-0 minutes later, but Katie DeLuca’s (Erie, PA/Strong Vincent) goal was disallowed due to an offsides call. IUP answered with the tying goal at 39:13, as a close play was not called offsides, with Erin Falce notching her fourth goal of the year. She was assisted by Crystal Heder.

That would be the end of the scoring until the 109:21 mark, when Krumins beat Edinboro goalkeeper Trish Chilcott (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek). The senior registered an incredible 30 saves in goal, as IUP showed the Indians with 42 shots and Edinboro with 21. Indians’ goalkeeper Becky Dillard was credited with 11 saves.
