EDINBORO, PA After scoring just three
goals in its previous five matches, the Edinboro University womens
soccer team broke out of its scoring drought with a 3-0 win over
East Stroudsburg on Saturday, as the Fighting Scots celebrated
Homecoming. With the victory, Edinboro evens its record at 5-5-2,
while East Stroudsburg falls to 4-6-2.
Just as the Fighting Scots had struggled to
score, so too had sophomore Ashley Pulman (LaSalle,
ONT/Sandwich Secondary). The 2004 PSAC West Rookie of the Year
had managed just one goal before scoring twice against the
Warriors.
The lone goal of the first half came at 12:48,
as Elise Falatach (Bay Village, OH/ Bay) lofted a long
shot over the head over ESU goalkeeper Samantha Marina for her
second goal of the season. She was assisted on the goal by Mary
Grebenc (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville).
The Fighting Scots got on some breathing room
less than two minutes into the second half on the first of Pulmans
goals, as she fired the ball into the left corner of the net from
ten yards out for an unassisted goal at 46:41.
Pulman added her second goal at 60:33, assisted
by Jessica Lassen (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg).
Edinboro outshot East Stroudsburg, 17-16, as
senior goalkeeper Trish Chilcott (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek)
recorded her fourth shutout of the season. Chilcott had eight
saves.
Edinboro returns to action on Wednesday,
October 5, hosting Clarion in a 4 p.m. match.
