EDINBORO, PA Ashley Pulman (LaSalle,
ONT/Sandwich Secondary) and Angie de Almeida (Gibsonia,
PA/Pine-Richland) scored two goals apiece to lead Edinboro to
a 5-3 win over Clarion on Wednesday. The Fighting Scots, ranked
eighth in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region, improve to 6-5-2
overall and 4-1-1 in PSAC West action. Clarion falls to 2-11-0
overall and 0-7-0 in league play.
Pulman scored two goals for the second straight
game, and also assisted on de Almeidas first goal, giving
her 7 goals and 3 assists for the year. But while Edinboro scored
a season-high five goals, it was Clarion that took the early lead.
The Golden Eagles scored just 1:55 into the match as Jayme Violi
headed in a crossing pass from Aimee Zellers.
The Fighting Scots knotted the score just over
a minute later, and proceeded to score three goals in less than 11
minutes. de Almeida opened the scoring off a pass from Pulman to
tie the match at 1-1 just 3:06 into the contest. Then it was
Pulman with back-to-back goals, both assisted by Elise
Falatach (Bay Village, OH/Bay). The first came on a breakaway
at the 11:50 mark, and the second just 35 seconds later at 12:55.
Clarion closed the gap to 3-2 at the half as
Nicole Scott headed in a corner kick at 40:25. The assist went to
Jessie Zahner.
Edinboro boosted the margin 4-2 early in the
second half on de Almeidas second goal, this one a breakaway
at the 52:09 mark. Mary Grebenc (Strongsville,
OH/Strongsville) was credited with the assist. The Fighting
Scots went up 5-2 on a penalty kick by Falatach at 75:16.
Courtney Clifford accounted for Clarions
final goal at the 82:45 mark.
Edinboro held an 18-12 edge in shots. Trish
Chilcott (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) was in goal in the first half
for the Fighting Scots, with Lisa Bartolowits (Pittsburgh,
PA/Shaler Area) taking over in the second half. Clarion also
used two goalkeepers, with Jessica Reed relieving Caitlin Dilal
after Edinboros fourth goal.
Edinboro returns to action on Saturday, October
8, hosting California(Pa.) in a 1:00 p.m. match.
