IUP Women's Soccer Team Defeats Edinboro, 3-1

EDINBORO, PA – The Indiana (Pa.) Indians scored three first-half goals to claim a 3-1 victory over the Edinboro University women’s soccer team. Lisa Guesman (Berea, OH/Berea) accounted for Edinboro’s lone goal in the second half.

The Fighting Scots fall to 7-8-2 overall, and 5-3-1 in the PSAC West. The Indians victory moves them to 13-2-1 and 8-0-1 in the PSAC West. Both teams have qualified for the PSAC playoffs that begin on November 1.

The Indians opened scoring early in the first half with two goals by the nine minute mark. The first goal was scored by Krista Dohn at 4:50 and was assisted by Shana Speese. Dohn was in action again, scoring another goal for the Indians at 8:34. With IUP up 2-0, Erin Falce closed the second half with an unassisted goal at 43:40.

Edinboro worked to close the gap early in the second half, scoring a goal at 51:00. Kara Ciacchini (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Ashley Jones (Fairview, PA/Fairview) assisted Guesman for Edinboro’s lone goal. Guesman now has 3 goals for the season.

Edinboro and Indiana (Pa.) were even with 16 shots. Fighting Scot goalkeeper Trish Chilcott (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) faced 15 shots and came up with 4 saves. The Indians goalkeeper Becky Dilliard spent the entire game in goal coming up with 3 saves.

Edinboro concludes its regular season next Saturday, October 29 with a contest at Slippery Rock, before beginning action in the PSAC Playoffs.
