Women's Soccer Team Plays Slippery Rock in First Round of PSAC Playoffs
October 31, 2005

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University women’s soccer team will make its third appearance in the PSAC Playoffs on Tuesday, November 1 when the Fighting Scots play at Slippery Rock. The match is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

Coach Gary Kagiavas’ team, in its tenth year, last appeared in the PSAC Playoffs in 2003, dropping a 2-0 decision at Millersville. In 2001 Edinboro was a 1-0 loser at Bloomsburg.

Edinboro and Slippery Rock have played twice this season, and both teams are still looking for their first goals. The two teams played to a 0-0 tie in double overtime at Edinboro on September 17. They met again this past Saturday at Slippery Rock, and again played 110 minutes without a goal.

Edinboro brings a record of 7-8-3 into the contest, but the Fighting Scots were 5-3-2 in PSAC West action, good enough to capture third place. They have two losses and a tie in their last three contests. Senior Trish Chilcott (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) will be in goal. She turned in a strong performance over the weekend, finishing with 10 saves for her sixth shutout of the season, a new school record. Chilcott has a 0.94 GAA, which is currently the second-best in school history. She ranks third in career shutouts with 10.

A young Fighting Scot outfit has struggled for scoring punch at times. Three sophomores lead the way. Angie de Almeida (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) is the top scorer with 7 goals and 5 assists for 19 points. Ashley Pulman (LaSalle, ONT/Sandwich Secondary), the 2004 PSAC West Rookie of the Year, is next with 7 goals and 3 assists for 17 points. Elise Falatach (Bay Village, OH/Bay) is third with 4 goals and 3 assists for 11 points. Edinboro has only allowed 20 goals this season, but has scored just 24 times.

Slippery Rock is the number two seed out of the West and brings a 10-5-3 overall record and

6-1-3 league mark into the playoffs. The Rock has a balanced scoring parade, with five players in double figures. Meghan McGrath leads the way with 6 goals and 6 assists for 18 points. Mallory Neubert has a team-leading 8 goals along with an assist. Jen McCormick will start in goal. She has 0.60 GAA.

The winner of Tuesday’s match will play top-seeded Indiana(Pa.) on Friday, November 4 at 1:00 p.m.
