EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University
womens soccer team will make its third appearance in the
PSAC Playoffs on Tuesday, November 1 when the Fighting Scots play
at Slippery Rock. The match is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start on
Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Coach Gary Kagiavas team, in its tenth
year, last appeared in the PSAC Playoffs in 2003, dropping a 2-0
decision at Millersville. In 2001 Edinboro was a 1-0 loser at
Bloomsburg.
Edinboro and Slippery Rock have played twice
this season, and both teams are still looking for their first
goals. The two teams played to a 0-0 tie in double overtime at
Edinboro on September 17. They met again this past Saturday at
Slippery Rock, and again played 110 minutes without a goal.
Edinboro brings a record of 7-8-3 into the
contest, but the Fighting Scots were 5-3-2 in PSAC West action,
good enough to capture third place. They have two losses and a tie
in their last three contests. Senior Trish Chilcott (Erie,
PA/Harbor Creek) will be in goal. She turned in a strong
performance over the weekend, finishing with 10 saves for her
sixth shutout of the season, a new school record. Chilcott has a
0.94 GAA, which is currently the second-best in school history.
She ranks third in career shutouts with 10.
A young Fighting Scot outfit has struggled for
scoring punch at times. Three sophomores lead the way. Angie
de Almeida (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) is the top scorer with
7 goals and 5 assists for 19 points. Ashley Pulman (LaSalle,
ONT/Sandwich Secondary), the 2004 PSAC West Rookie of the
Year, is next with 7 goals and 3 assists for 17 points. Elise
Falatach (Bay Village, OH/Bay) is third with 4 goals and 3
assists for 11 points. Edinboro has only allowed 20 goals this
season, but has scored just 24 times.
Slippery Rock is the number two seed out of the
West and brings a 10-5-3 overall record and
6-1-3 league mark into the playoffs. The Rock
has a balanced scoring parade, with five players in double
figures. Meghan McGrath leads the way with 6 goals and 6 assists
for 18 points. Mallory Neubert has a team-leading 8 goals along
with an assist. Jen McCormick will start in goal. She has 0.60
GAA.
The winner of Tuesdays match will play
top-seeded Indiana(Pa.) on Friday, November 4 at 1:00 p.m.
