Volleyball Team Faces Must-Win Situation at IUP Saturday
Fighting Scots Could Grab Last PSAC Playoff Spot With Win
November 2, 2005

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University volleyball team could have a trip to the PSAC Tournament on the line when it concludes the regular season at Indiana(Pa.) on Saturday, November 5. The match is set for a 7:00 p.m. start.

Factoring into the playoff picture is a match between California(Pa.) and Slippery Rock on Friday, November 4. Slippery Rock can clinch the third and final PSAC West playoff berth with a win over the second-seeded Vulcans. However, a Slippery Rock loss leaves the winner of the Edinboro-IUP match as the third playoff entrant from the West.

Lock Haven has secured the number one seed with a 28-4 overall record and 9-0 in the PSAC West. California(Pa.) is second at 29-2 and 7-2, respectively. Slippery Rock is currently third with a 24-8 overall mark and 4-5 in league play, while Edinboro is 23-14 and 3-6, while IUP is 24-9 and 3-6. The Fighting Scots would capture the tiebreaker with Slippery Rock thanks to a recent 3-0 win over The Rock. Edinboro would win on the games differential between the two teams tiebreaker. Slippery Rock needed four games to beat Edinboro in September.

Edinboro kept its playoff hopes alive last night with a 30-27, 30-20, 30-15 sweep of Clarion.

First-year coach Missy Soboleski has righted the Fighting Scots after a slow start. At one point in time Edinboro was 7-12, but the Scots have since run off 16 wins in their last 18 matches, and are currently riding a four-game winning streak. Included in the recent hot spell was a 3-2 win over IUP at McComb Fieldhouse.

The PSAC Tournament is slated for Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 12 at the highest-seeded Eastern Division team. That will be decided on Saturday when Kutztown and Millersville meet. The two are currently tied at 6-3 in PSAC East action.

In addition to the PSAC Playoffs, Edinboro is currently ranked in the top six in the Atlantic region. The top six teams will go to the regional tournament in two weeks.
