EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University
volleyball team secured the third and final playoff berth in the
PSAC Championships with a five-game win at Indiana(Pa.) on
Saturday. The Fighting Scots rallied from a two games to one
deficit to win 30-27, 26-30, 24-30, 30-25, 15-12 over the Indians.
The winner of the match was assured the third seed in the PSAC
West.
Alicia Knouff (Louisville, OH/Louisville) led
the Fighting Scost with 12 kills, while Tiffany Trgovac (Irvine,
CA/Irvine) had 11 kills and 17 digs. Jenna Newman (Reno,
NV/Coronado) and Breanna Smith (North Canton, OH/North Canton
Hoover) also contributed 11 kills. Ashley Cottengim (Fairport,
NY/Fairport) finished with 54 assists.
After a slow start, first-year coach Missy
Soboleskis team has caught fire, winning its last five
matches and 17 of the last 19. The Fighting Scots head into
postseason play with a 24-14 ledger, 4-6 in the PSAC West.
Edinboro is also ranked third in the Atlantic Region, and
virtually assured of one of eight regional playoffs berths.
Kutztown (21-11, 7-3 PSAC East), the top seed
in the Eastern Division, will host the PSAC Championships on
Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 12. Edinboro will open
up the tournament with a 10 a.m. match against Millersville. The
Marauders are the number two seed in the East, with an overall
record of 15-15 and 6-4 in league play. California(Pa.) (30-2,
8-2), the second seed out of the West, will oppose East number
three seed West Chester (20-13, 6-4) at 12:30 p.m. in the other
quarterfinal match.
The semifinals are scheduled for Friday
evening, with the Edinboro-Millersville winner playing Lock Haven
at 5:00 p.m., and the California(Pa.)-West Chester winner matching
up against Kutztown at 7:30 p.m. The PSAC Championship match is
set for Saturday, November 12. the time will be announced later. |
