November 15, 2005

Complete Box Score

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University men’s basketball team used a dominating performance on the glass and double double efforts by Daren Tielsch (McKees Rocks, PA/ Montour/Penn State) and Justin Moore (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan/New Haven) in turning in an 89-56 win over West Virginia Wesleyan in the season opener for both teams on Tuesday.

The Fighting Scots controlled the boards to the tune of 56-24, actually pulling down one more offensive rebounds than West Virginia Wesleyan’s rebound total. Tielsch, a 6’8”, 240 lb. senior, scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Moore, a 6’6” sophomore who played at New Haven a year ago, added 13 points and 11 boards. Curtis Ingram (Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney/Wofford), a 6’3” junior who is also a transfer by way of Wofford, fell one rebound shy of a double double with 12 points and 9 boards.

A fast-paced first half saw Edinboro jump out to a 46-23 lead at intermission, holding the Bobcats to 31.0 percent shooting from the floor. The Fighting Scots used an 8-0 run to go from a 9-8 lead to 17-8, with Tielsch capping the run with a dunk. A 9-0 later in the half built the margin to 38-18. The lead never got under 24 points in the second half.

The sophomore tandem of Devon Knight (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) and Ryan McLemore (Garfield Heights, OH/St. Peter Chanel) played a large role off the bench. Knight contributed 10 points, while McLemore, a rangy 6’8” forward, had 9 points, 7 rebounds and a career-high 8 blocked shots in 22 minutes.

Edinboro shot 49.3 percent from the floor on the evening while holding the Bobcats to 36.7 percent. The only negative for the Scots was 16 turnovers, 11 in the second half. The victory marked the third straight season Edinboro opened the season with a win over West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Fighting Scots return to action on Tuesday, November 22 playing at backyard rival Gannon. Tipoff is slated for 8:00 p.m.
