EDINBORO, PA Edinboro University senior
Greg Bzorek (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) has been named to the
2005 Associated Press Little All-America Team for the second
straight season. A year ago the 66 330 lb. offensive
tackle earned a spot on the third team. This year he moved up to
the second team.
Bzorek is just the sixth Fighting Scot to earn
AP Little All-America honors more than once, and the last since
Mike Kegarise in 1992 and 1993. He joins Kegarise, Curtis Rose,
Ernest Priester, Elbert Cole, and Jim Romaniszyn. In addition, he
was one of only seven players from the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference to receive the honors, which includes players from NCAA
Division II, III and NAIA. Bloomsburg OT Jahri Evans and TB Jamar
Brittingham were named to the first team, as was WR Evan Prall of
East Stroudsburg and Shippensburg DB Brent Grimes. In addition to
Bzorek, East Stroudsburg QN Jimmy Terwilliger, California(Pa.) TB
Antoine Bagwell and Kutztown DB Michael Baldwin earned spots on
the second team.
We are thrilled that Greg was
once again recognized with this national honor, commented
head coach Lou Tepper. He is most deserving and one of the
finest offensive linemen in Edinboro history.
Bzorek keyed an offensive line which has been
renowned as one of the most physical in Division II. This past
year Edinboro led the PSAC in fewest sacks allowed for the second
straight year, giving up seven after allowing just nine in 2004.
In addition, Edinboro averaged 199.3 yards per game rushing,
particularly impressive since not one Fighting Scot tailback had
recorded a carry at Edinboro entering the season. A year ago he
helped pave the way for Andre Burke to run for a school-record
1,713 yards. This year a trio of tailbacks combined for 1,769
yards.
Bzorek will soon head to Kingsville, TX to play
in the Cactus Bowl on January 6. He is also one of eight finalists
for the 2005 Gene Upshaw Lineman of the Year, presented to the top
offensive or defensive lineman in Division II. He recently earned
All-PSAC West recognition for the third straight year, and was a
first team Daktronics All-Northeast Region choice for the second
straight year. He was a first team All-PSAC selection at right
tackle the last two years after earning second team recognition as
a sophomore.
Bzorek started 44 of 45 career games and did
not allow a sack his last two seasons. A preseason first team
All-American selection by Street & Smiths and Lindys,
he earned numerous honors in 2004 in addition to earning a spot on
the Associated Press Little All-America third team.
Edinboro finished with an 8-2 record this past
season, winning its third straight PSAC West championship.
