EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University mens
basketball team finished the 2005 portion of its schedule on
Tuesday night with an impressive 81-73 win over visiting
Bloomsburg in a PSAC crossover game. The victory snapped a
two-game losing streak and boosted the Fighting Scots record
to 6-3, while the Huskies fell to 2-7. Edinboro has now won the
last six meetings against Bloomsburg.
The Fighting Scots jumped out to a 48-30 lead
at the half, shooting 52.9 percent from the floor while limiting
Bloomsburg to 38.7 percent. Edinboro never trailed in the contest,
using a 19-4 run to break the games only tie and jump out to
a 23-8 lead with just under eleven minutes to play. The Fighting
scots built the lead to as many as 23 points at 42-19 in the first
half.
The lead grew to as much as 25 points at 66-41
with 14:13 to play before the Scots went cold from the field and
scored just 15 points the rest of the way. Edinboro still
maintained a double-figure lead until the final ninety seconds of
the game.
Edinboro ended the night shooting 50.8 percent
from the floor, while Bloomsburg warmed up over the final twenty
minutes to finish at 44.3 percent. After being outrebounded in the
previous four games, the Fighting Scots held a 46-34 edge on the
glass as Daren Tielsch (McKees Rocks, PA/ Montour) led the
way with 10 rebounds. The 68 senior also scored a
team-high 24 points for his fifth double-double of the season.
Tielsch was one of four players in double
figures. Curtis Ingram (Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney)
turned in his best effort of the year with 15 points and 9
rebounds, both season highs. The 63 junior missed
three games earlier this year due to injury and had seen limited
action in Edinboros previous game against Charleston(WV).
Devon Knight (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) contributed 13
points, a career-high 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals, and
Justin Moore (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) added 12 points.
The Fighting Scots are now off until January 3
when they play at Alderson-Broaddus. |
