EDINBORO, PA After losing its last four
games on the road, the Edinboro University mens basketball
team came up with a big win on the road on Saturday, handing
Kutztown an 83-80 defeat in a PSAC crossover contest. The victory
was the second straight after three consecutive losses and boosted
Edinboros record to 8-6. The Golden Bears fall to 9-6 with
the loss.
The Fighting Scots won for the 11th time in 12
meetings against Kutztown while handing the Golden Bears just
their second loss in the last nine games. The Fighting Scots
trailed for almost the entire first half before pulling to within
one point at 40-39 at intermission. Kutztown led by as many as six
points in the second half at 76-70 with 5:04 to play when Edinboro
rallied.
The Scots ran off ten straight points while
holding the Golden Bears scoreless for three-and-a-half minutes.
Daren Tielsch (McKees Rocks, PA/Montour) started the rally
with a layup, followed by a three-pointer by Curtis Ingram
(Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) that pulled Edinboro within
one. A pair of free throws by Justin Moore (Canonsburg,
PA/Canon-McMillan) gave Edinboro a 77-76 lead with 3:47 to
play, and Tielsch followed with a layup for a three-point lead.
Tielsch then made one of two free throws with 1:43 remaining to
conclude the run.
Kutztown came back with a pair of David Ben
free throws and a layup by Ben Arnold to knot the score at 80-80
with 49 seconds left. Chris Ravello (Odenton, MD/Archbishop
Spalding) gave the Scots the lead for good with a free throw
at the 17 second mark, and Ingram clinched the win with a pair of
free throws with five seconds remaining.
Ingram led the Scots in scoring for the fourth
straight game with 18 points, adding 6 rebounds while making 4 of
7 three-pointers. Moore matched his season-high with 17 points,
making 7 of 10 field goals. Tielsch recorded his eighth
double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, adding 4 blocked
shots, while Torry Mitchell (Erie, PA/Central) finished
with 14 points.
The Scots shot a sizzling 58.6 percent from the
floor in the second half to end the game at 49.3 percent, while
holding Kutztown to 42.7 percent. The Scots made 8 of 14
three-pointers comapred to 3 of 18 for the Golden Bears.
Edinboro is back in action on Sunday, January
15, playing another PSAC crossover contest at West Chester. |
