EDINBORO, PA It isnt easy to lead
a team from start to finish, particularly on the road, and against
a good team like West Chester. Thats exactly what the
Edinboro University mens basketball team did on Sunday, as
the Fighting Scots defeated the Golden Rams, 65-40. The victory
helped Edinboro sweep its two-game weekend road trip to Kutztown
and West Chester.
Edinboro has now won three straight games after
losing three in a row, and finishes with a 5-2 ledger in PSAC
crossover games this season. The Fighting Scots are 9-6, as is
West Chester. The 40 points allowed to the Golden Rams represents
the fewest points allowed since a 91-40 win over Slippery Rock
during the 1995-96 campaign.
The Fighting Scots scored the first seven
points of the game and eventually led by as many as 21 points in
the first half. Edinboro would settle for a 34-16 lead at the
half, holding the Golden Rams to 22.2 percent shooting (8 of 36).
Any comeback hopes were quickly dismissed as Torry Mitchell (Erie,
PA/Central) opened the second half with a pair of three-pointers
to boost the lead to 40-16. In fact, after failing to score for
over four minutes to start the games, West Chester went almost
five minutes without a point to open the second half. The Edinboro
lead would balloon to 34 points at 63-29 with 5:34 to play, but
the Scots would score just one more basket the rest of the way.
Three Scots scored in double figures, led by
Chris Ravello (Odenton, MD/Archbishop Spalding) with 17
points. The 63 senior made three three-pointers and
pulled down 8 rebounds. Ryan McLemore (Garfield Hts., OH/St.
Peter Chanel) turned in one of the finest efforts of his
career with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocked shots in 22
minutes. The 68 sophomore made 6 of 10 field goals.
Curtis Ingram (Youngstown, OH/Cardinal
Mooney) scored in double figures for the sixth straight game,
finishing with 11 points. Daren Tielsch (McKees Rocks,
PA/Montour) recorded his ninth double-double with 10 points
and 11 rebounds, keying a 49-42 rebounding advantage.
Edinboro shot 43.5 percent from the floor, but
limited West Chester to just 23.9 percent (16 of 67).
The Fighting Scots return to action on
Wednesday, January 18, opening PSAC West action against Slippery
Rock. |
