Five Fighting Scots Rank Among NCAA Basketball Leaders
Iorfido Falls to Number Two in Division II in Assists
January 31, 2006

EDINBORO, PA – A total of five Edinboro University basketball players are ranked in the latest NCAA Division II statistical leaders. Leading the way is senior Callie Iorfido (Ambridge, PA/ Ambridge), who ranks second in the country in assists and is ranked eighth in steals. Iorfido has helped the women’s basketball team to a 15-4 record heading into Wednesday’s PSAC West contest vs. Clarion. The men’s basketball team has a 13-6 record going into the Clarion game.

Iorfido had been the nation’s leader until this week, when her average fell to 8.9 per game. Brooke Underwood of Tusculum is number one at 9.2 apg. The 5’5” guard leads Edinboro with 160 assists, and has 66 steals, both tops in the PSAC. Iorfido’s career-record assist total stands at 593, and she ranks fourth in career steals with 254.

In addition to Iorfido, Agnes Michalow (Krakow, Poland/Krakow #32) is ranked 10th in blocked shots with an average of 2.8 per game. The 6’3” junior has blocked 53 shots, a figure which ranks seventh in the season records. Kelly Calderone (Freedom, PA/Ambridge), coming off a 15-for-16 performance at the free throw line at Lock Haven, ranks 34th in free throw percentage at 83.8 percent. She has made 62 of 74 from the charity stripe.

Daren Tielsch (McKees Rocks, PA/Montour) has moved up to 11th in the latest rebounding figures on the men’s side. The 6’8” senior continues to lead the PSAC, averaging 9.7 rpg. He also stands 7oth in field goal percentage (53.2 percent) and 71st in blocked shots (1.4 blk./gm.). Ryan McLemore (Garfield Heights, OH/St. Peter Chanel), meanwhile, ranks 18th in blocked shots with an average of 2.2 per game. The 6’8” sophomore has 41 blocks this season.

The men’s basketball team is now 31st in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 40.6 percent from the floor. The Fighting Scots are also 50th in scoring margin (+9.2 ppg.), 55th in rebound margin (+3.8 rpg.), 71st in scoring defense (66.8 ppg.), 75th in scoring offense (76.1 ppg.), and 84th in field goal percentage (46.6 pct.).
