Fighting Scots Win Eighth Straight Game With 87-72 Victory Over Clarion
Edinboro Off to Best Start in PSAC Since 1974-75

EDINBORO, PA -- The Edinboro University men’s basketball team reached 5-0 in PSAC West action for the first time since 1974-75 thanks to a 76-60 win over visiting Clarion on Wednesday. The Fighting Scots have now won eight straight games to improve to 14-6 overall. Clarion falls to 10-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The win snapped a three-game losing streak to the Golden Eagles.

The Fighting Scots shot a sizzling 57.7 percent from the floor for the game, and took control of the contest with an 8-0 run to end the first half. Chris Ravello (Odenton, MD/Archbishop Spalding) started the run with a three-pointer, followed by a steal and breakaway dunk by Daren Tielsch (McKees Rocks, PA/Montour). Torry Mitchell (Erie, PA/Central) made it 45-33 with a three-pointer with six seconds left in the half.

Edinboro built the lead to 16 points at 54-38 early in the second half, and held a double digit lead until Clarion made a late run to close the score to 70-63 with 4:57 to play. Edinboro made 11 of 12 free throws over the final two minutes to secure the win. The Fighting Scots, ranked sixth in the PSAC at 66.5 percent from the line, ended the night making 20 of 23 from the charity stripe.

Tielsch led four players in double figures with 22 points, his ninth game of 20-or-more points. The 6’8” senior made 10 of 12 field goals and also led Edinboro with seven rebounds. Curtis Ingram (Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) added 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the floor. Mitchell had 13 points and a career-high nine assists, and Ravello finished with 13 points. Devon Knight (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) came off the bench to contribute 9 points, making 7 of 8 free throws.

Edinboro returns to action on Saturday, February 4 at Shippensburg. The contest is a showdown for first place in the PSAC West after the Red Raiders, 5-0 in the PSAC West, defeated California(Pa.) on Wednesday.
