EDINBORO, PA An Edinboro win and a
Slippery Rock or Clarion loss on Saturday could have assured the
Fighting Scots womens basketball team of a spot in the PSAC
Playoffs. But a Lock Haven team clinging to its playoff life wasnt
about to accommodate Edinboro, handing the Fighting Scots a 75-72
defeat in overtime at McComb Fieldhouse. Edinboro is now 17-8
overall and 5-5 in the PSAC West, while Lock Haven is 16-8 and
5-6, respectively. The Fighting Scots came in ranked eighth in the
East Region.
As it would happen, Slippery Rock did lose to
Shippensburg, but Edinboro will have to wait until Wednesday when
it plays at Clarion to possibly reserve a spot in the postseason.

points in her last two games, she was limited to 17 points.

from the floor in the first twenty minutes, and committed just
five turnovers. But the Lady Eagles shot 46.4 percent in the
second half and made 3 of 5 shots in overtime. The Fighting Scots
built the margin to 11 points at 48-37 with 14:54 remaining on a
Calderone jumper, but the Lady Eagles kept clawing back, taking
the lead at 64-63 with 35 seconds left on Caniece Montagues
three-point play. After an Edinboro turnover, Kristy Shadduck made
one of two free throws to give Lock Haven a 65-63 lead with 19
seconds left. That also concluded a run of seven straight points.
Calderone would snap Edinboros scoreless
streak with a layup with seven seconds left to send the game into
overtime tied at 65-65.
The Lady Eagles took immediate control in
overtime, running off the first seven points for a 72-65 lead with
1:25 to play. The Fighting Scots would close to 74-72 on Callie
Iorfidos (Ambridge, PA/ Ambridge) layup with 11 seconds
to play. Elizabeth Gabrielle was fouled with eight seconds left
and made one of two free throws for a three-point lead, and
Edinboro missed a layup at the buzzer.

paced four Scots in double digits with 20 points. Jessi
Montie (Erie, PA/McDowell) added 14 points while Iorfido had
11 markers.
