Official Press Release

Lady Scots Drop Both Ends of Softball Doubleheader at Walsh
March 28, 2006

Complete Box Scores
Game 1       Game 2

The Edinboro softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at Walsh, falling 4-3 in the first contest and 1-0 in the second. Errors and base running mistakes plagued the Scots in each game.

Katelyn Gurgiolo (Stow, OH/Medina) led off the top of the first for the Fighting Scots with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice by Hannah Kipfer (Meadville, PA/Meadville). Freshman Dana Webb (Amherst, NY/Williamsville South) drilled her fourth double of the season to plate Gurgiolo.

Walsh tied the game in the bottom of the fourth but Edinboro answered in the top of the sixth with two runs. Danielle Arno (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Leanne Carmichael (Pinehurst, MA/Billerica Memorial) led off the sixth with back-to-back singles. Cyndi Carnaghi (White Plains, NY/White Plains) advanced the runners and Kipfer promptly belted a double to plate both Arno and Carmichael to give the Scots a 2-1 lead.

The Cavs responded in the bottom of the sixth with three runs on two Fighting Scots’ errors to take the lead for good. Vanessa Rose (Akron, OH/Manchester) fell to 3-2 with the loss. The sophomore went six innings, giving up four runs and striking out six.

The second-half of the twinbill proved to be just as frustrating for Edinboro. Two errors in the bottom of the third allowed Walsh to take a 1-0 lead, and that’s all Cavs’ pitcher Megan Pisciotta would need. Pisciotto blanked the Fighting Scots, giving up four hits to just two Edinboro batters, Katelyn Gurgiolo (Stow, OH/Medina) and Mandie Iorfido (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge).

Jessica Lindamood (Hartville, OH/Lake) went the distance for the Scots, falling to 1-2 on the season.

The Fighting Scots now own a 7-7 record heading into this weekend’s play. Edinboro will open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play on Friday, March 31 at home against Western Division opponent, Indiana (Pa.). The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. The Scots then travel to Slippery Rock the following day, April 1, for another PSAC West doubleheader.
