Official Press Release

Edinboro and Slippery Rock Split PSAC Softball Doubleheader
April 1, 2006

Complete Box Scores
Game 1           Game 2

The Fighting Scots snapped a three-game losing streak, defeating Slippery Rock 3-2 on the road, but fell short in the nightcap of a PSAC Saturday softball doubleheader, losing 6-5 to the Rock. Edinboro is now 8-8 overall, 1-1 in PSAC West Action.

The Scots opened with two runs in the top of the first and added what would become the game winning run in the top of the second. With two outs in the top of the first, Dana Webb (Amherst, NY/Williamsville South) reached on a fielder’s choice. Mandie Iorfido (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) reached on an error by the centerfielder allowing Webb to score, and Iorfido scored off Leanne Carmichael’s (Pinehurst, MA/Billerica Memorial) double to take a 2-0 lead.

Edinboro would add another run in the top, again with two outs. Vanessa Rose (Akron, OH/Manchester) singled up the middle with the bases loaded to score Hannah Kipfer (Meadville, PA/Meadville).

Rose went six innings in relief of starter Kim Kurchev (Mogadore, OH/Mogadore), and improves to 4-2 on the season. The sophomore gave up two runs on seven hits. Katelyn Gurgiolo (Stow, OH/Medina), Webb and Carmichael each went 2-for-4 in the game.

In game two, the Fighting Scots would rally from a 5-1 deficit to tie the game 5-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but the Rock would lead off the inning with a double and score the winning run with two outs. Freshman Danielle Arno (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) led the Fighting Scots, going 2-for-2 at the plate and driving in two runs. Dana Webb (Amherst, NY/Williamsville South) went 2-for-4 in the game, knocking in two and scoring two.
