Edinboro Softball Drops Two at Seton Hill
April 4, 2006

Complete Box Scores
Game 1       Game 2

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University softball team lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Seton Hill today, falling 3-2 in the first game and 5-3 in the second. The losses drop the Fighting Scots to 8-12 overall, 1-3 in the PSAC West, while Seton Hill improves to 9-8 overall.

The first contest remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Jessica Cox (Cranesville, PA/Northwestern) walked. Then, the number-nine hitter in the lineup, Cyndi Carnaghi (White Plains, NY/White Plains), unloaded with her first home run of the year to give the Fighting Scots a 2-0 lead. Seton Hill answered big in the bottom of the sixth when Griffins’ hitter Kate Summerhill drilled a bases-loaded double with two outs to plate three runs for the game’s final score.

Jessica Lindamood (Hartville, OH/Lake) went the distance for Edinboro, giving up eight hits and walking none. The junior drops to 1-4 on the year.

In the nightcap of the twinbill, it was the Griffins who scored first, plating three runs in the bottom of the third and two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Edinboro mounted a comeback scoring three runs in the top of the sixth but could not push another run across the board. Katelyn Gurgiolo (Stow, OH/Medina) led off the inning with a walk and then stole second base. The Fighting Scots then put together back-to-back singles by Vanessa Rose (Akron, OH/Manchester) and Mandie Iorfido (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) to make cut the lead to 5-2. Iorfido moved to third on Leanne Carmichael’s (Pinehurst, MA/Billerica Memorial) ground out to second and scored on a wild pitch to make it a 5-3 Griffins’ lead. The Fighting Scots would go down in order in the top of the seventh.

Sophomore Mary Lynn Arlotta (N. Tonawanda, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) took the loss for Edinboro, dropping to 2-3. She went four innings, gave up eight hits and three earned runs. Kim Kurchev (Mogadore, OH/Mogadore) pitched two innings in relief.

Edinboro returns to action on Friday, April 7 in a home contest against PSAC West opponent California (Pa.) Game-time is set for 2:00 p.m.
