Game 1           Game 2

The Edinboro University softball team dropped both ends of a PSAC West doubleheader at Indiana (Pa.), falling 5-0 in the first game and 3-1 in the second. The Fighting Scots are now 10-16 overall and 3-7 in the conference. The Indians improve to 17-12 overall, 8-2 in PSAC West action.

Edinboro travels to play Lock Haven on Monday, April 17 at 2:30 p.m. The Bald Eagles are ranked seventh in Division II by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Vanessa Rose (Akron, OH/Manchester) took the loss for the Fighting Scots in the first contest, giving up eight hits and striking out five. The sophomore allowed just one hit through the first five innings but could not escape trouble in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, IUP used seven consecutive hits, including a 2-RBI triple by Jodie Swavely, to plate five runs for the game’s final score.

The Fighting Scots had runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, including a bases-loaded opportunity in the third, but could not push a run across the board against Swavely. IUP’s senior pitcher struck out seven en route to her seventh shutout performance of the year.

Rose, Dana Webb (Amherst, NY/Williamsville South), Mandie Iorfido (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) and Hannah Kipfer (Meadville, PA/Meadville) each went 2-for-3 at the plate.

In the second half of the twin-bill, IUP took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added another run in the bottom of the third. Edinboro would score its only run of the game in the top of the sixth when Leanne Carmichael (Pinehurst, MA/Billerica Memorial) reached on an error and advanced to second on the sacrifice by Danielle Arno (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius). Jessica Lindamood (Hartville, OH/Lake) moved pinch-runner Ashleigh Smith (Mars, PA/Mars) to third and Kipfer’s double scored Smith for the game’s final score.

Rose recorded her second loss of the day, giving up five hits and two earned runs in 1 1/3 innings. The losses move Rose to 6-8 on the year. Kim Kurchev (Mogadore, OH/Mogadore) pitched four innings in relief, allowing five hits and one earned run.

Katelyn Gurgiolo (Stow, OH/Medina) led the Fighting Scots, going 3-for-4 at the plate while Webb hit 2-for-4.
