Official Press Release

Edinboro Softball Swept in Doubleheader Against Lock Haven
April 17, 2006

Complete Box Scores
Game 1          Game 2

EDINBORO, PA – The Fighting Scots fell twice to seventh-ranked Lock Haven in a PSAC West doubleheader, losing 7-0 in the first contest and 12-1 (5 inn.) in the second. Edinboro drops to 10-18 on the season, 3-9 in the PSAC West, while league-leading Lock Haven improves to 33-3 overall, 12-0 in the PSAC West.

The Fighting Scots’ bats could not match the powerful pitching of Lock Haven, managing five hits on the day against the Bald Eagles’ duo of Kristin Erb and Jeannette Middlestead. Erb threw a complete game in the first half of the twinbill, holding the Scots to three hits and no runs while striking out seven. The shutout marked the ninth of the season for Erb and she improves to 18-0.

In game two, Edinboro was held to two hits by Middlestead, but took advantage of a Lock Haven error in the top of the third to plate the Scots’ only run of the day. With the victory, Middlestead moves to 13-2.

Vanessa Rose (Akron, OH/Manchester) recorded both losses for the Fighting Scots and falls to 6-10 on the year. The sophomore threw a complete game in game one, going six innings while striking out four. Rose lasted 1 2/3 innings in the second contest and gave up eight runs on five hits before being replaced by Kim Kurchev (Mogadore, OH/Mogadore). Kurchev threw 1 2/3 innings in relief and allowed one earned run on one hit.

Katelyn Gurgiolo (Stow, OH/Medina) collected two of Edinboro’s six hits on the day, going 1-for-3 in both games with a run scored in the second contest. Dana Webb (Amherst, NY/Williamsville South) added a double, while Cyndi Carnaghi (White Plains, NY/White Plains) and Jessica Lindamood (Hartville, OH/Lake) recorded the only other hits for the Fighting Scots.
