Edinboro Softball Falls Twice to Local Rival Gannon
April 18, 2006

Complete Box Scores
Game 1          Game 2

EDINBORO, PA –The Edinboro University softball team lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to local rival Gannon, falling 9-1 (6 inn.) in the first contest and 3-2 (8 inn.) in the nightcap. The Fighting Scots drop to 10-20 overall, 3-9 in the PSAC West. Gannon, ranked second in the Great Lakes region, improves to 26-13 overall.

Edinboro’s offense struggled in game one, collecting just three hits off Gannon’s Jenn Kulick, and committed four costly errors. The Fighting Scots kept the game tied 1-1 until the fourth inning, but the Golden Knights scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth, one in the fifth and five in the sixth to put the game away. Leanne Carmichael (Pinehurst, MA/Billerica Memorial), Hannah Kipfer (Meadville, PA/Meadville) and Jessica Lindamood (Hartville, OH/Lake) each singled for the Scots. Lindamood took the loss for Edinboro, allowing 12 hits and five earned runs through 5 1/3 innings. The junior falls to 1-5 on the year.

In the second contest, the Fighting Scots rallied to score two runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 2-2. With one out and a runner on, freshman Dana Webb (Amherst, NY/Williamsville South) belted a 3-2 offering over the left field fence and Edinboro would hold Gannon scoreless in the next two innings, sending the game into extra innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, it was Gannon’s Allison Gerger who spoiled the Scots comeback, ripping a triple down the right field line to score the Golden Knight’s Joanna Fergus all the way from first. Vanessa Rose (Akron, OH/Manchester) took the loss for Edinboro, throwing three innings in relief of starter Kim Kurchev (Mogadore, OH/Mogadore). Rose gave up two hits and struck out three while Kurchev allowed five hits and two earned runs through 4 1/3 innings.

Edinboro is back in action this weekend, hosting Slippery Rock on Friday, April 21 at 2:30 p.m. and Lock Haven on Saturday, April 22 at 1:00 p.m.
