EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University
softball team snapped an eight-game losing streak, defeating
visiting Slippery Rock 3-0 in the first contest and 2-0 in the
nightcap. The Fighting Scots improve to 12-20 overall, 5-9 in the
PSAC West, while Slippery Rock falls to 18-18 overall, 4-10 in the
PSAC West.
Edinboro hosts Lock Haven tomorrow, Saturday,
April 22 at 1:00 p.m.
The Fighting Scots turned in an impressive
offensive performance, collecting 16 hits on the day, and received
a fine effort from pitcher Vanessa Rose (Akron,
OH/Manchester). The sophomore pitched both games, improving to
8-11 on the year. She struck out a career and season-high 12
batters in the first game and posted 21 strikeouts for the day.
She now has 119 strikeouts this season, the sixth-highest season
total, and 183 career strikeouts, fourth all-time.
Rose also led the Fighting Scots at the plate,
going 1-for-4 with a run scored in the first game and 3-for-3 with
a run scored in the second contest. Freshman Dana Webb
(Amherst, NY/Williamsville South) also contributed to the
Scots’ offense. The second basemen went 2-for-4, with a
double, triple and two RBI. She now has eight doubles and five
triples on the year, tied for the seventh and fifth-highest season
totals, respectively.
At least seven Fighting Scots had one hit
against the Rock in game one, and Danielle Arno (Manlius,
NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Hannah Kipfer (Meadville,
PA/Meadville) each went 2-for-3 in the second contest.
