EDINBORO, PA Edinboro Universitys
Kyle Wunz (East Springfield, PA/Northwestern) continues to
show that he is a force to be reckoned with at the upcoming PSAC
Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Competing in the Elete
IUP Open on Saturday, the freshman doubled for the second time
this season, winning both the 200 and 400 meter dashes.
While battling inclement weather and a
headwind, Wunz finished first in the 200 meters with a time of
21.60, then came back with a first place finish in the 400 meter
dash with a time of 48.40.
Another freshman Travis Prejean (Jamestown,
NY/Jamestown), captured third place in the 1500 meter run with
a time of 4:03.53. David Blend (North Canton, OH/Hoover)
finished one place behind Prejean in fourth place with a time of
4:04.84. Blend also finished eighth in the 800 meter run.
In other results for the mens team, Franklin
Duroubasa (Enugu, Nigeria) took home third place in the long
jump (2011.00), while Ben Fenell (Edinboro,
PA/Northwestern) was tenth in the javelin (15811).
On the womens side, Michele Kelly
(Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) finished first in the 800 meter run
with a time of 2:18.60. Ashley Young (McDonald, PA/Canon
McMillan) was tied for second in the 100 meter dash (12.80)
and finished tenth in the 200 meter dash (27.80). Young added a
fourth place finish in the long jump, with a jump of 157 ½.
A pair of Fighting Scots finished in the top
ten in the javelin. Ashlee Highfield (Mercer, PA/ Mercer)
was third (1254) and Ashley Argenta
(Greensburg, PA/Latrobe) was tenth (1051).
Rachael Lanzel (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys)
and Julie Nemergut (Youngstown, OH/South Range) were tied
for for fourth in the 3000 meter run (10:32.00), while Kelly
Richards (Edinboro, PA/ General McLane) was fourth (4:48.41)
and Kiersten Buckley (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) was tenth
(5:01.55) in the 1500 meter run.
Finally, Kristin Malloy (Langhorne,
PA/Neshaminy) took home ninth place in the 100 meter hurdles
with a time of 17.40.
