Nemergut Finishes Ninth In 10,000 Meters At Penn Relays
Three Fighting Scots Turn in Strong Showings
April 28, 2006

EDINBORO, PA – Edinboro University’s contingent of athletes turned in strong performances on Thursday at the prestigious Penn Relays. Three athletes represented the Fighting Scots, with all three posting NCAA provisional qualifying times. A fourth, Travis Prejean (Jamestown, NY/ Jamestown), was scheduled to compete in the 5,000 meters, but no time was listed. Most of the competitors at the Penn Relays represented Division I teams.

Leading the way for the Fighting Scots was Julie Nemergut (Youngstown, OH/South Range), who finished ninth in the College Women’s 10,000-Meter Championship. Nemergut’s time of 36:38.79 is the second-best in the PSAC this year. Sixteen runners, four non-Division I, took part.

Kelly Richards (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) turned in a strong showing while competing in the College Women’s 3,000-Meter Steeplechase Championships. It marked the first time she has competed in the event this year. The senior placed 11th with a time of 10:39.67, the top time in the PSAC this year. Richards was the lone Division II competitor in the 18-person field, with the others all Division I runners.

Rachael Lanzel (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) added a 17th place finish in the College Women’s 5000-Meter Championship. Her time of 16:58.72 is the best in the PSAC this season. A total of 24 runners took part in the race, only four non-Division I competitors.
