EDINBORO, PA Edinboro Universitys
contingent of athletes turned in strong performances on Thursday
at the prestigious Penn Relays. Three athletes represented the
Fighting Scots, with all three posting NCAA provisional qualifying
times. A fourth, Travis Prejean (Jamestown, NY/ Jamestown),
was scheduled to compete in the 5,000 meters, but no time was
listed. Most of the competitors at the Penn Relays represented
Division I teams.
Leading the way for the Fighting Scots was Julie
Nemergut (Youngstown, OH/South Range), who finished ninth in
the College Womens 10,000-Meter Championship. Nemerguts
time of 36:38.79 is the second-best in the PSAC this year. Sixteen
runners, four non-Division I, took part.
Kelly Richards (Edinboro, PA/General
McLane) turned in a strong showing while competing in the
College Womens 3,000-Meter Steeplechase Championships. It
marked the first time she has competed in the event this year. The
senior placed 11th with a time of 10:39.67, the top time in the
PSAC this year. Richards was the lone Division II competitor in
the 18-person field, with the others all Division I runners.
Rachael Lanzel (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys)
added a 17th place finish in the College Womens 5000-Meter
Championship. Her time of 16:58.72 is the best in the PSAC this
season. A total of 24 runners took part in the race, only four
non-Division I competitors.
