Edinboro Softball Splits Doubleheader With California (Pa.)
Fightins Scots’ first victory over the Vulcans since 2000

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University softball team split an away contest with California (Pa.), losing 5-4 in the first contest and winning 4-3 in the nightcap. The victory against California (Pa.) marks the first time since 2000 that the Fighting Scots have defeated the Vulcans. Edinboro won three out of four contests against California (Pa.) during the 2000 season.

Edinboro is now 15-23 overall, 8-12 in the PSAC West while California (Pa.) is 23-13 overall, 13-7 in the PSAC West.

The Fighting Scots were led in game one by junior Jessica Lindamood (Hartville, OH/Lake). The right fielder hit a two-run homerun in the sixth inning to give Edinboro a 4-3 lead, but California (Pa.) answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning for the game’s final score. Vanessa Rose (Akron, OH/Manchester) took the loss for the Fighting Scots, allowing five runs, three earned, on nine hits while striking out three. The loss drops the sophomore to 9-14 on the season.

The Fighting Scots rallied in the second half of the twin-bill for the victory after trailing 2-1 until the fifth inning. Edinboro two runs in the top of the fifth and one in the top of the sixth to put the Vulcans away 4-3.

Leanne Carmichael (Pinehurst, MA/Billerica Memorial) hit a bases-loaded single to plate two runs in the top of the fifth to give the Fighting Scots the lead for the first time in the game while sophomore Hannah Kipfer (Meadville, PA/Meadville) knocked in Danielle Arno (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) in the top of the sixth for the game’s winning run.

Arno led Edinboro at the plate in game two. The freshman went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, scoring and knocking in one run. Mandie Iorfido (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) contributed a 2-for-3 performance with one run scored, while Carmichael, Cyndi Carnaghi (White Plains, NY/White Plains) and Kipfer each added a hit.

Lindamood went five innings for the Fighting Scots and improves to 2-5 on the year. She gave up three earned runs on seven hits and struck out seven. Kim Kurchev (Mogadore, OH/Mogadore) picked up her second save of the season, throwing two scoreless and hitless innings of relief.
