EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University
womens track and field team took home three first place
finishes and finished sixth out of 13 teams at the 2006
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field
Championships this weekend. California University of Pennsylvania
hosted the meet.
The Edinboro mens team came in tenth out
of 14 teams. Slippery Rock came away as the womens champion,
easily outdistancing Lock Haven, 207 points to 107. On the mens
side, Shippensburg finished with 168 points to place first, with
Slippery Rock second at 140.5 points.
A total of five Fighting Scot women earned
All-PSAC honors, which is finishing at least third in an event.
Michele Kelly started the trio of first place finishes as she won
the 800 meter run to earn All-PSAC honors in the event for the
second straight year. Her time of 2:14.54 was an NCAA provisional
qualifying time. Julie Nemergut then finished first in the 5,000
meter run with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 17:21.98,
five seconds faster than her closest competitor.
Kelly Richards made it three PSAC champions
when she easily captured first place in the 3,000 meter
steeplechase. Her winning time of 10:59.16 was also an NCAA
provisional qualifying time and was seven seconds faster than the
second place finisher.
Rachael Lanzel added a second place finish in
the 3,000 meter run, finishing with an NCAA provisional qualifying
time of 10:10.41. Kristin Malloy was the fifth Fighting Scot to
earn All-PSAC honors, capturing third place in the heptathlon with
3,807 points. Ashley Argenta narrowly missed with a fourth place
finish with 3,742 points.
Other scorers for the women were Ashley Young,
who placed fifth in the 100 meter dash (12.67), and Ashlee
Highfield, who was fifth in the javelin (1210).
For the men, Dan Field was the lone competitor
to earn All-PSAC honors. He placed third in the 3,000 meter
steeplechase with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:22.79.
John Moneyhon also gained points in the event with a sixth place
finish (9:43.65).
Kyle Wunz narrowly missed All-PSAC status in
two events, finishing fourth in both the 200 and 400 meter dashes.
The freshman ran a 21.71 in the 200 and a 49.15 in the 400. Dave
Niemira also brought home fourth place in the 10,000 meter run
with a time of 3:15.99. Josh Arthur placed seventh in the event
(32:25.13).
